Hey, so I recorded a Ska feel song and I had positioned my Snare Mic a tad far away from the drum so on the recording its not as bright as it could be.

Does anyone have any tips in terms of EQ, compressers, limiters, anything at all that I could use to brighten it up and bring it to the front? Anything would be great!

Thank you.

Ill post it up but i was asking in terms of general advice.

I usually rotate the HF knob somewhat clockwise to get that effect.

The only general advice that makes any sense is to listen to it, decide what it needs done to it, and then do that. What more is there?

If you think you didn't position the mics correctly, why don't you record it again with the mics positioned correctly?

Or replace the snare track with samples of the same snare mic'd to your liking.

I agree.....
record it again with proper mics and see if u can get the sound u want...or...use a good midi drum sampler (like ezdrummer and stuff......)
then, put some eq, compressor and reverb to make the snare sound good...

I'll probably just Eq and compress it. If its still not that great I'll re-record.

I had gotten a good sound after I fixed the snare. But after I finished the other instruments (bass, guitar, vocals,) The snare seemed lost as if there was no frequency for it. I proved it by EQing it really high to make it come through but terribly. Should I use an exciter or compensate the other instruments?

I was about to when I realized that I Eq'ed the bass and snare drum almost identically. In the intro the bass is playing the high octave and the snare comes through but once it plays lower the snare entirely dissapears. Is there anything you could suggest to share those frequencies or do you absolutely need a recording (of which will sound bad enough to not be helpful).

This is bizarre. More masking –of a snare, by the bass's lower register.
(At the risk of adding pure nonsense of course. :)
Anyway it'll make for interesting listening.
