I know, that sucks!!

I often wish I could make a trip to the US so I can buy a load of gear, cause Its all so cheap over there

All so cheap?! Okay, maybe it is.. I must be spoiled.

so how come it's £209 in UK?

that's $337!!

Yeah, higher cost for shipping a box over there. And for the download.. you know, it's expensive to send bytes through the internet all the way over tharr...

i'd agree,,but the shipping charge is on top of that AFAIK.

it's the only thing about being british that sucks :laughings::laughings::laughings::laughings:

So looking over 9, I decided not to switch over and upgrade to cubase 5 (I use studio 5 at the moment).

I'll probably upgrade pt8mp down the road but for now, eh.

Stupid question but I got to ask?

Cost to upgrade from LE 8 to PT 9 is $250. No prob with the cost but can you upgrade your m-box PT8 LE to PT9 or do you have to buy the new hardware?

I believe you can keep your Mbox. You use the serial number found on the Mbox to upgrade to PT9.

it's gona be hard enough to find someone to buy an mbox with protools, let alone an mbox without it!

Why do you say that? The new Mboxes are great interfaces...

I think we're talking about an old Mbox. They're just not going to be in nearly as high demand since you have to buy PT9 new with an interface (new Mbox?). Right?

You don't have to buy Pro Tools 9 with a new interface...

Unless you're saying that the original Mbox won't work with PT9? In which case, that's correct.

nah, i'm just talking about any mbox.

let's face it, mboxes were always over priced compared to similar products from other companies, purely because they give you access to protools.

now that PT9 is out, no one's gona pay the same money for an mbox 2 as they would have a few months ago..

I've read that the new PT is suppose to use any interface.
Going to Avids website show a more precise list of interfaces.
I'm not sure there is one is this list I would want to use.
Can we just assume all manufacturers are going to jump right
into delvelopement?

Here is the list as it stands currently :

The key word there was AVID qualified. Of course they are not going to give their 100% approval to other companies hardware.

But I know people using MOTU and RME hardware with the new PT9 just fine.

Mbox 2, no. But the Mbox 3 is a much better prospect. Even when they package PT with the Mbox 3, it will be cheaper than buying a similar interface and then buying PT9...

They aren't going to spend all their time testing every other manufacturer's boxes are they?

It's compliant with ASIO and Core Audio, so provided that your interface plays nicely with Core Audio and ASIO you're fine.

Focusrite have already declared compatibility (pretty damn quickly I may add!) and have developed a plugin to control their interfaces from within PT: http://www.focusrite.com/protools9

I'm sure other manufacturers will follow suit in due course.

yeh, that's cool.

i'm just sayin, it's not gona be easy for guys like me to get my money back!lol

Ah don't have that attitude towards it in the first place; unless you bought it in the last few weeks?

If you've had your use out of it, and made some decent tracks with it, who cares if it's cost you money? In the long run it still will have been cheaper than getting someone else to record it ;)

Ah, okay. I heard from some source early on that you still had to buy it with a piece of hardware.. I'm glad that's cleared up.

Nah, the whole point is that you can use it with ANY core audio or ASIO interface!

Yep, got that. What I heard is that you could use it with any such interface, but you still had to *purchase* the software with an Avid interface.

I can replace my 002 now, but I just don't know what's good. I'd like to still have a control surface and lightpipe in, and I'd need a converter, obviously.

I'd stick with the 002, it's a great control surface.

If you really wanna jazz it up then add some external converters like an Octopre or something.
