Compressing Limiting Drums?

Is that just mixing a compressed version with a non compressed version so dynamics don't get lost? Wouldn't it be kind of like doubling up drums? Sounds interesting

Yeah, basically that's pretty much it. It's also known as New York compression. Gives a bit of oomph to the drums without totally killing the dynamics. I don't usually tend to double the drums as such though. It's more running it through the compressor as a send using an fx track in Cubase and then balancing the volume between the two. The compressed drums usually sit pretty low. Just enough to have the desired effect. I involve the bass guitar aswell quite often, it's a tangled spaghetti monster of routing that I can't remember well enough to detail. I just do it at the time.

This has been a helpful thread, fellas. Thanks to all for the input. :)
