Pro tools 9!!!!!!

Does anyone know anything about the release date of the mbox 3 pro?
I have ordered one and am still waiting for realease, and does that mean I will still have to pay the extra £200 to upgrade to 9? or is there a chance with the held release date the pro will come with pro tools?
 
As I understand it, the plan is to cease distributing Mboxes with Pro Tools software.

If you buy it and it comes with LE you can crossgrade. However if you buy it when it doesn't come with LE, then you'll have to pay full whack to upgrade. At that point, surely they need to drop the price of the Mboxes?
 
Is it just me or is PT8/digi 003 not even that old? Are these guys getting marketing advice from George Lucas?

PT8 came out Oct 08, so to go from 8.0.x to 9 is odd, but it is probably in response to the illegal versions which had been hacked to use core audio...

Didn't know about that, Its funny that they proably got the idea from the guys who hacked it.

I find it all confusing at this stage, Im guessing 9 is going to take over from M-powered and LE, but they are still running with PT8 with Avids hardwear.
From a customer perspective its a bit of a crap deal, go out and spend £600 on a new mbox pro and then before you even have it in your hands you know there is another £200 to come on top of that :mad:

This is not what I got off the presentation yesterday. It was my understanding that there were still going to be bundles, but the option to buy hardware only was still there.
 
Its a huge announcement from the avid camp the Pro Tools 9 doesn't require any Interface and can work with any recording interface. I think after a lot of criticism and the cost one needs to setup a digidesign stuff was very expensive.

i was so happy when i heard you can use any interface. Does anybody know how big it is?

Pro Tools releases are always announced at AES. It is first and formost a professional audio program. They are selling to the pros first and the hobbyists second. NAMM won't have anything crazy unless Avid has to make major changes.

Infact I had recently bought Mbox 2 Mini with which I got PT 8 LE but the website says owners of Mbox wont be entitled for an Upgrade to PT 9. Thats disappointing and the new package of Pro Tools 9 costs a whopping $600. Man its absolutely beyond my reach now to purchase it. All I can do is wait for it to be cracked so that I can use it.

If you have PT8 LE you can upgrade for $299.00.

Surely you wouldn't have to pistol-whip more than 3 or 4 old ladies to come up with that amount...
 
Yeah, like Tim said, it's only $250 to upgrade/crossgrade from LE 8.
 
and then make up the difference on import tax :(:(:(

but yeh, it'd be sweet.
