...a cheerful little acoustic cover of Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon...

so i sat down and i was like hmmm i wonder if i can make this into a bedtime song.. like a lullaby 2 go 2 sleep with.. then of course it rained when i filmed it but besides that it was kind of boring 2 just watch me singing so i clipped it all up and did a bunch of weird zooms (i know i suck at video editing but the point was the cute little tweaks 2 the song)

Props to you for playing music and making a youtube video and doing what you love to do. With that said, this creeped me out, and not in a good way. It wasn't good. I think you missed the mark with this cover. This version sounds like something that would be sung by a crazy person to an audience of bound and gagged prisoners in his basement.

Let's hear you play guitar and sing a different song, but not this one... ever again.

Don't take the comment personally, dude- everyone here wants you to succeed, in fact, the reason they can be harsh is so that you don't go wandering down a path that leads to a dead-end.

Gotta say, I pretty much agree with the first two posters- I really wanted to like your effort, even after reading the other posts, but sorry, bud- it's just not working. Maybe if you smashed a vintage guitar...:p

But anyway, is that rain in the background, from the beginning of the vid? If you are going to have that in there, either real or simulated, you need to acknowledge it by showing rain in the vid. If it's done with a rain stick (a favorite of mine) you could show someone playing the rain stick.

Gotta agree with Dogmatic on this one. The lyrics really don't suit the mood you're trying to create.

I like this reading - I like the evil undertone.
You do need to work on your recording though.
The guitar is boomy & you need to mic it a little clearer.
Posting it as a vid means that it'll be interrupted more by download/stream issues - get an account with Soundclick, reverbnation or similar.
Is it recorded as it appears in the vid - 1 mic etc?
The inclusion of the rain is actually quite good, it reinforces the eerieness of the reading.
Now, go & record it as a song then make a video to go with it.

the lip sync was way off...which is not to big a deal unless its something as intimate as this, or as intimate as you sound like you are trying to make it

I dont think the performance was bad...Ive heard much much worse, but if you are naked with a guitar...make sure that guitar is recorded well...that did sound boomy and lacked sparkle..and perhaps tame the mock emotion a little as your voice is pretty decent anyway

I think you could make something of this...dump this video though

and Im surprised no ones pointed it out but your playing upside down dude!!

;) :D

I bailed on watching the video and just listened to the song so I could just critique the music. (I was weirded out by the right handed guitar being played left handed, couldn't get my head around it :D)

Without the visuals, I think this improves a lot. I don't mind the stylized vocals at all, sort of made me think of Prince a little, in one of his more outside moments. I've actually never heard the original, so perhaps I'm better equipped to judge this on its own merit and not compare to the original. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

On a technical note, I do agree that the recording quality of the guitar leaves a bit to be desired from a perspective of balance and clarity. BUT, keep in mind folks, this is mashed through YouTube's codec, nothing sounds pristine.. Overall though, I thought the performance was pretty good, if a bit quirky, but I don't mind quirky. :)

Uh, excuse me- SOME of us ARE left-handed. I know some lefty guitarist who just flip a wrong-handed (sorry, couldn't help myself!) guitar over.:)
