I was wondering...

how much I can do with a Tascam DP008. I've got it, and I know how to use it.
However, whenever I'm reading homerecording tips and such everything is based on an interface/computer system- the use of signal processors and such things. Is it basically impossible for me to use outboard equipment and things? Am I limited to the Tascam unit? Or is there a way to bring other pieces into my recording "rig"?

Well that depends upon what you bring in.
I see no inserts but about the only thing you would want to add for outboard gear is probably a preamp (which I'm guessing you really don't need) or a compressor which would be handy. Then there's reverb and EQ, I suppose.
Preamps, compressors and channel strips, as well as other effects units are fairly simple to apply.
Just plug the mic into say, your compressor then take a line out from your compressor to line "A" for your Tascam.
So "Yes" you can but do you really need to.
By the way, and I'm sure you know this, 44.1kHz/16-bit recording resolution is CD quality.
That's a nice little rig.

There's all kinds of stuff you could do.

If you had a guitar track recorded, you could make it play through the output, put it through an effects box and then re-record it back on to another track.

Or maybe take all the tracks and play them through a compressor back into two empty tracks, or maybe onto another machine or computer.

I do have this Art tube preamp... the $30 one laughings
It's got really nice reverb and eq built in.

Compressor? How would I run in into there/use it?
(Any compressor recommendations?)
