I'm sure if you asked Jimmy he'd say Jimi was better.

One thing to note too is that Jimi died at 27... I think he put out 3 albums in his lifetime.

Jimmy turned 65 this year, and lots and lots of albums.

My pick is Page (only in Zeppelin though)...dont like anything hes done outside of zeppelin.

Hendrix...I go back n forth on whether I even like his music or not.

He has some great tunes and great guitar playing however I heard some live records that kind of gave a different insight into his playing.

I think a lot of Hendrix genius came form the guys behind the mixer who captured some amazing moments on tape and knew how to package that the right way.

Live Hendrix isnt that great...studio work sounds great but you have to give credit to the guys mxing it as well because he didnt sound like that live.

Also the whole backwards guitar wasnt hedrix doing...the mixers did that.

Actually you got that wrong. I agree with you on Page being a better guitarist but behind the console WAS Jimi H. He was a pioneer in audio effects and production. It was him that thought of the backwards tape thing. There were a lot of things that we never would have discovered if it weren't for Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi Hendrix hit when I was entering high school. What people nowadays might not get is that compared to anybody that came before him, he was radically different.

Nowadays he might not seem so radically different because so many people copped his style and warped it into their own, but when Hendrix came out, it was like he was from another planet.

Because of that, and because of how young he died, tons of people want to study everything Hendrix did and if he sat in at a jam in Paris one night when he happened to be sick and played terrible, well that recording is probably on YouTube and available on CD. So there's lots and lots of stuff that is just terrible out there except for educational or historical purposes... not musical and I'm sure Jimi would cringe at most of it!

I thought the Axis Bold as Love album was a gem.

Jimmy page was like the father of modern rock...when you see a band on TV with their long hair and power chords saying that the Beatles were their greatest influence...they are full of shit...they are emulating Led Zeppelin...so who do you think was really their biggest influince?

You cannot be serious. You are joking, right?

Page might have been better with an acoustic but he was a sloppy lead player. Jimi was sloppy too, but it was the blues so it was ok.

Either way you slice it both guitar players are legends...not only for their guitar playing however for their songwriting as well.

Its one thing to be an excellent guitar player howvever its another thing to write classic riffs and songs people love.

I voted both are kickin BC they are both amazing and have their own unique style

when some one is full of crap I have to call them out on it

apparently you don't know much about how they used to record and the whole backwards guitar thing was because Hendrix played left handed and lefty strats were not very available when Hendrix was alive so he learned to play right hand strat left handed which was way before any music producers discovered him
when Hendrix sounded bad during a live performance is because he was so fricken stoned out of his mind he could barely play.

Blues my ass Hendricks was a Rocker!
:spank:

While I agree that his post was full of shit and totally un-informed, I have to point out that he wasn't talking about Jimi playing a right-handed guitar backwards. He was refering to the reversed recordings (backwards) like on "Are You Experienced?".

----------------------------------------------------------------

While there are some recordings of Hendrix live where he's a bit sloppy, there are also hours and hours of great live Hendrix. One needs to listen to someone for more than 3 minutes before they think they can make a judgement on how good or bad they are.

You never heard Jimi play acoustic, have you???

To be honest with you, I don't think I have. From your response I'll take that he's good. But Jimmy was very good as well. Neither one of them is a Neil Young though.

I read in a guitar magazine in the early 80's that Hendrix did not create the backwards guitar thing (lead guitar playing backwards in song)

I didnt get my info off the internet

Im sticking with what I said...call me full of crap all you want.

Unless the article was misinformed im sticking with what I read.
