In tune, yes. Punk doesn't mean play out of tune. But properly? Wtf is properly? Like I just said, Paul Simonon didn't know how to play AT ALL, yet was a founding member one of one of the most important bands ever and ended up being a pretty solid bassist.

That's what I love about Simonon; from not knowing how to play, to recording some of the best known basslines around.

Maybe so, but obviously not as badly as you do. The Clash was a great band that made a large and lasting impression on the history of rock and roll. But I'm sure you know more about them than "Rock The Casbah", right? :rolleyes:

I'm not primarily a bassist, but when writing bass lines for my own stuff, I'd say Simonon is by far my biggest influence.

in the beginning, yes. the running theme in that book is he and topper weren't schooled enough to contribute much musically though, which he realized was a huge mistake when they found out what publishing is.

Me neither, but I do the same.... well they start off with that style in mind, and tend to morph into alsorts, lol.

Glad I've finally got a band sorted though, it means I don't have worry as much about trying to write "cool basslines".

Anyway, I'll stop waffling about my love of the Clash and let this get back on topic.

Crappy production on 90's alt rock? Crappy production on Siamese Dream? Siamese dream was and is a technical achievement for the ages. Every inch of that production is perfect. Legends abound of Corgan's insanity in the studio demanding that perfection. That album takes your head off.

Put down the computer speakers and rock it through a healthy 100 watt system with decent cabs.

We're working on our CD and have recorded a few of the tracks. Looking to get kind of a 90s feel out of the disc. Maybe along the lines of Stone Temple Pilots or Smashing Pumpkins. Any tips for the distorted guitars and the drums?

I was thinking a few of the Pumpkins tracks had a little bit more reverb on them than normal, and the guitars were usually a huge range of amps and guitars. HSS Fenders and Marshalls? Gibsons and Marshalls? What do you guys think?

And maybe any tips for the vocals, too. Even production ideas, as well. I will try to post some stuff as soon as I can.

In the late 80's early 90's alot of alternative "Grunge" bands had a "break all the rules" approach. They'd use the crappiest guitars, the oldest broke down amps and pedals that sat in someone's basement exposed to the elements for 20 years. I'm not joking either!

For the record, I kind of like POTUSA. Their guitbass/bassitars sound cool.
 
Damn it, when I get on a "troll roll" it's hard to stop. :D Sorry about that.


As for the Presidents of the US of A: Yes, their first album is killer and destroys all that came after...but you still might want to track down their "Death Star" song. It was on their (last?) album. Poodle on the cover...
