okay... before we can say anything we need to know what equipment do you have?
any sound examples of your work so far?

Asking specific questions will help get you information to move you towards your goal. Asking "how can I sound like this" is more likely to get you mocked Im afraid.

What areas do you feel you are not making headway in? what do you think is holding you back?...is it certain pieces of equipment? knowledge? or talent?

if you think its as generalised as all of the above then the best thing you can do it explore and experiment until you come up against a brick wall..then ask

In truth there is no quick fixes or tricks...even the simplest software takes a basic understanding of what it can achieve before you will get the results you want from it..

So sit down with a piece of paper or whatever and think of specific questions that would help you move to the next level...then folks here will be able to help you quicker and more effictively :)

at least you found homerecording.com so you already began to help yourslef...welcome aboard

ah you reckon it was the vocals he was asking about?

I thought he meant in general...I fail again :o

well thats not "autotune" thats a "hardtune" effect I think...I'm up to date with the youngsters tastes ;)

to the OP, get $299 and then purchase TC Helicon VoiceTone....turns out there is a quick fix lol

Either way...it seems like a lot of effort just to win a baseball hat! :laughings:

The OP can probably just buy one for $12.95. ;)

I'm using an Maudio pro tools vocal studio and an maudio pro tool recording studio pre-amp. I'll post the song tom, and its not the autotune. I guess my question is how can I produce that vocal quality, because it sounded like it was recorded in a recording studio.

I mean how can I sound like clear like that in general, not the autotune. It sounded like it was recorded in a real recording studio, the vocals was clear and the way it was recorded, coz i've tried to mess wit the program and I cannot come up with that sound.. thanks

well for one you need to look at where you are recording your vocals and what mic are you using...you've already mentioned your pre amp

chances are, like most of us, you are not in a treated room....I use a walk in closet as the clothes help to adsorb any sound that may reflect of the walls back into the mic...this is the easiest way to "fake" a vocal booth without actually buying one...though you can purchase screens that just go around the mic, if you havent got this, these will help too...

Also the mic you have is important...is it a USB mic, is it a cheapo dynamic, condenser etc etc

I just bought an MXL V67g for $90 from the suggestions of people here and its very suited for my voice and a step up from the condenser I was using (that actually cost more) try to get to a music shop that will let you try some, or take the plunge...buy a V67g??

Your M Audio pre amp is probably not the best but no reason you cant use it...look at getting a decent channel strip plug in, (Ive posted a free one on this forum thats getting great reviews) learn to use compression and EQ to get the best out of your voice...heres a beginners guide to compression posted a while back, there's a paragraph on vocals that may help specifically

also this is a great resource on recording vocals

hope this helps :)

thanks man.. I'm also recording at a mini walk-in closet. which is better when it comes to microphones? MXL or Maudio?

yeah is MXL microphones better than Maudio? and what pre-amp can you suggest which is that not much expensive.. thanks....

for a pre amp DMP3 from M Audio...for mic the MXL V67g....thats going to set you back around $250 all in all so if there's any way you can test these things first thats always best..

but for their price range these are very good if not the best in that range...

kinda like asking whats better Honda or Toyota...there are so many models, jobs to be covered, prices etc that no one is better...

Read up in the microphone forum...theres a few threads on mics at the cheaper end of the market without sacrificing usability...and some very, very, knowledgeable people in there...did I mention very knowledgeable? ;)

USB mics are never a good option unless you're making podcasts or voice overs etc

thanks man. I'm really learning alot! so I guess the MXL v67 is a realy good bet?

I was really surprised, I had been using a decent dynamic and a behri B1, which had cost more at first...but this thing is like in a different league...

my voice isnt really boomy or filled with bass and this seems to compliment it really well....Im using it with DMP2 pre amps, which is the DMP3 predecessor, and i think it will do me for quite a while...best $90 Ive spent in a long time....

thanks man... It will be my next project, the DMP-2 Dual Microphone Pre-amp and MXL v67.. thank you for the time man

I can just use those three items right? the mic connected to the pre amp and then the pre amp to my laptop and then my cool edit pro right?
