huh???
The last song that I converted to mp3 sounded absolutely aweful after it was converted (not that the original sounded great). :D

But seriously, I exported the song as a 16/44.1 stereo wav file. I then used Audacity to convert it to a 128 mp3. The mp3 lost so much quality and also had this very strange delay, vibrato, phaser kind of sound. I did have a couple of tracks in the Cubse project which had some very light delay, but the mp3 had multiplied that delay by like 30 times.

After Audacity, I tried iTunes and Window Media Player. Both with the same results. I ended up bypassing the delay in Cubase, exporting another .wav file, then made another mp3. It sounded better, but geez............

Now I know that mp3 will not have the same quality as the wav, but do different programs convert to mp3 differently? Are some better than others? If so, which ones are better?

nope. I'm not ripping cds. I just want to convert them to mp3.

thanks for the link.

Yes, different programs will use different algorithms to generate an MP3, so they may sound different.
Try upping the bitrate. Many people use 320 K. 128 really is pretty low.

I use dBpoweramp. I've used it for years and it's one of the better ones arouind. Converts to several mp3 formats other than the common LAME.
EZ right click interface...and it's pretty quick. Can't recommend it highly enough.
