DAW Users With ADD

Me going AWOL I resent the spurious slur on my character spread by you two guys about me slacking off work and/or this forum. I just don't know how you could have come to such a scandalous conclusion that I have not/do not work for a living:eek:

:D

Work Last week I was in France; this week I have been in Switzerland and all next week I am in Germany, slumming it in a Hyatt Grand Regency hotel. So I don't know how you can say I don't work hard:confused:

:D

New DAW My computer is coming along in stages; this weekend I will order the remaining pieces but it won't be complete until early January. I enjoy the planning, research and building of them as much as the finished article.;)

Pension I am taking a great deal of interest in my pension now as I a) get older and closer to retirement and b) because I have it all under my control now. But the trick is deciding what to do with the money; Shares? Land? Bonds? Property?

Music Our youngest daughter performed at a celebrity event last night that made the papers this morning and interestingly, after she put who she performed for on her website, the traffic to her site rose significantly within a few hours. So it just goes to show how shallow some people are that google for celebs names and follow the listings.

AR's Birthday Happy b'day for next week AR - whatya having for it?

Christmas We put some decorations up today and apart from the wind and rain, it now seems like Christmas - my favourite time of the year.:)

Have fun boys, take care out there, its a tough life if you weaken :)

:D

Laters!

I resent the spurious slur on my character
I believe it's only considered a slur if it's not true. ;) ;)

Work
My son got canned this week. It came as a disappointment to me, but not a major surprise. When he lived here, he would get up at all different times to go to work. Sometimes 8:00, sometimes 9:00, sometimes 10:00, Whenever I asked him what time he was supposed to be at work, I always got evasive answers. I kept telling him he was going to get fired if he kept it up, but do they listen.... nooooooo!

I guess when he was first hired and they told him he was going to be an executive assistant, he misheard and thought they said executive director.

Anyway, in the long run, I actually think this could be the best thing to happen to him. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call (and hopefully he won't be looking to move back in with me). He really needs to understand that no one owes him a living. Maybe going without a paycheck for awhile will provide that understanding.

There's a serious problem with the current generation. Maybe it's the way we raised them, but I really don't think so. My daughter is not like that, and she is only 5 years older than him.

I've got to agree for the most part, but we do have a couple really good young guys working by us.It's a hard job that's 100% results orientated, you have to get something done every day.Still in our economy we had an ad in the paper awhile back and didn't get anybody. We have insurance,401K and a decent wage, but you have to pick up heavy stuff, get dirty and work in the heat/cold/rain/snow.I think most kids fancy themselves working in clean, comfortable conditions with plenty of time to socialise and there's only so many of those jobs to go around. So when supply and demand are out of whack part of your job is keeping your job.

I'm hoping that these times we're in toughen up this generation a little bit, life has been too easy, too fast for too many people and I think it's catching up.

AR's Birthday Happy b'day for next week AR -
It's a week and a half away,I'm surprised you remember though. No doubt I'll be getting the same present from you as last year......NOTHING!:D

whatya having for it?
Whatever my wife tells me I'm having.
Actually this time of year is dominated by the kids various school concerts and holiday get togethers so my birthday consists of cake at home and acting excited about getting socks and a coffee mug.

The weekend
It's the calm before the storm.

LATER!!!

AR's B'day It's the 16 of Dec if I remember correctly;) Anyway, it's the thought that counts:p

Lay-offs Sorry to hear about your son-in-law Mike, seems to be a recurring theme; everyone knows at least a few people who are laid-off right now, I have a few members of my extended family who are under threat.:(

Its work Jim, but not as we know it!

I know you guys will think this is rich coming from me but I come from a working class background where working hard was the ethic that was always drummed into me. It was lost on me when I was at school but as a teenager, I had a vision of where I could be if I worked hard. And then by happenstance, I had a girlfriend from a wealthy family and that really got me motivated. The father was a right berk who worked as a salesman and earned a load of $$$, so I thought if he can do it, so can I.;) So that was it really, I got my head down and started to charge. And have been charging ever since.;)

The key to it is to get where you want to be and be happy with it. I think I maybe have one more promotion level left in me before I retire, either in terms of size of operation or complexity of role but that's it. I am well paid by any measure and don't need to earn more if it comes with a personal price I don't want to pay i.e. more time away from my family and home, more stress and less time to do the things I want to do.

I see kids today that are motivated and those that aren't. Motivating middle class kids is the hardest thing to do; they rely on the Bank of Mom and Dad too much instead of getting off their asses and working at it.

Like AR, when I was just starting out, I had to achieve something every day, otherwise......... I was a butchers boy, market stall greengrocers assistant, soldier (infantry) and industrial plant cleaner before I got a job with prospects.....working as a trainee technician in a foundry:eek:

Flat wide-screen I took delivery this week of a Dell 2309 (22") high definition flat screen; amazing value for money and crisp, detailed graphics. It's great for Sonar because it is able to display a lot of detail and width in whatever mode you are in.

Have fun!

Lay-offs Sorry to hear about your son-in-law Mike,
Actually it's my son. My son-in-law has also been laid off. However, he is still on the job as his layoff is not effective until Dec 19th.

So in another two weeks, I'll have both a son and a son-in-law out of work. Good thing I didn't have any more kids, the economy couldn't stand it. :( :( :(

Well if there ever was a year to find out the true meaning of Christmas, this would be it.

Sorry Mike, I hadn't spotted that; I knew your son-in-law was at risk so just assumed you meant him. Bummer, don't know what else to say.:(:o

Last week we let go a husband and wife; we had no choice, tried to figure out an alternative where only one went but couldn't make it happen.:(

As AR says, it will test the true Spirit of Christmas this year in many households.

That's why it still amazes me that I worked nearly 40 years and never lost a job. Unfortunately my kids are not finding life the same.

In my son-in-law's case, it's pretty much the result of the poor economy. However, in my son's case, it's a false sense of entitlement. And as already noted, I hope he takes a lesson from it.

Sacrifice
I'll be missing the first half of the Packers game tonight to go to my son's band concert.

I think I should get a Purple Heart or sumpin'.

Sorry dude, but with the Giants still having a shot for a wild card, I think I have to root against the Pack. :p :p

Snow day!
The boss called off work today because of a snow storm that started last night and will run through mid day. It's not wort driving two ways through crap along with the possibility you can't even get to the job because it's not plowed out.
Ironically I've got no snow, just rain.Living near the lakefront we usually get more snow, but because of the time of year we lucked out.

LATER!!!

Well it's Friday.....

It was a rough week.It was in the single digits a few days and I was on a gigantic barn job.If the cold wasn't enough it was next to a manure pit the size of a small lake,I wouldn't dare imagine what it smells like in August. That's where I spent my Birthday.

But today wasn't too bad,and tomorrow is Saturday with two three(maybe more)day weekends coming up.

It also looks like there'll be work through at least January, not that I really want to work.;)

December is a hectic, sometimes frustrating month for me.The period after football ends is a void.

LATER!!!

15" of snow last night. :( :(

Fortunately I didn't have to go out in it. ;)

Of course, since it was a Saturday night, no one else did either.

Football
Can't believe those lard-ass Cowboys beat the Saints last night. It's not looking too good for the heroic men in blue.

Otoh, my boys at Rutgers won their fourth straight bowl game yesterday.

Maybe one of these years they'll actually play well enough during the season to qualify for a bowl that someone actually watches.

Giants - Packers
AR - When Favre signed with the Vikings this year, I think I remember telling you that we would help you get even by smacking them around in the final game of the season.

Little did we know that that smackdown could cost your cheeseboys a playoff spot.

I wouldn't want to be you, having to maybe root for the Viks in two weeks. :p :p :p :p :p

Of course, if I could have my way, the Cowgirls will be the ones on the outside looking in, and both the G-man and Pack will make it.

TV's
My TV died over the weekend. Kinda pisses me off. The thing was only about 5 years old. I have a TV that I bought in 1986 that is still going strong. But this one, a 42" wide-screen, high definition model, couldn't even make it 5 years. :( :(

I tossed around having it repaired, but given the way prices on TV's have come down, it didn't seem worth it. It was likely going to cost me nearly half the price of a new one. So yesterday I did my bit for the economy and bought a new 46" plasma. It's being delivered this morning.

Of course, that meant I had to watch the Giants on a 19" standard def tv last night.

In the meantime, if I keep spending all my retirement money, I might have to come and live with one of you guys in a couple of years.

We still have a game on you,so don't go buying playoff tickets quite yet.Not that we'll go far.....
Rooting for the Vikings is not an option.

TVs are priced not to be repaired. We bought a 36" CRT,a real monster, and it lasted about five years too.Thing was,we bought it for like $350:eek: and we were in the same boat.

I need a new refrigerator, dryer, camera,tv and the wife now wants a pit group instead of the old furniture.I could really stimulate the economy if I had any money.:o

Yeah, but we hold the tie-breaker I believe (over both you guys and the Cowgirls). So... if we win the last two, both you and the girls have to win out as as well to keep us out.

Notice how my moxie has picked up based on one decent game. :D :D

Unfortunately, the defense is extremely suspect on this team. :( :( However, I will at least give Eli his due: he is having his best year by far this year, and is playing well enough that I would actually keep him around. (Good thing too, cause he signed like a 10-year contract. )
