Problem with Asp8's, White noise coming from left monitor
I turned on
my Asp8's today for the first time in about a month.
After the initial power up I can here a constant low level white noise, which fluxuates in resonance and volume and crackles every now and then also.
When I turned the monitors off again I noticed that Instead of the kind of warm, low pop sound you hear, there was a louder mid frequency pop sound.
I turned the monitors back on again to troubleshoot.
To start, I thought I would play a couple of tracks on my pc and then my CDJ's to see how bad the problem really is. I started by playing a track from my pc with a right pan on the master out of my mixer, to listen to how the right monitor was producing the sound. The usual warm, rich and full sound that I had expected was present, so no problems so far, that is to say until I panned the master out left. The sound that was coming from the left monitor was completely different, it was alot thinner with a strong emphasis on the High mid-High frequencies and the track sounded somewhat punchier.
So to eliminate the possiblity of a sound card issue, I turned off the pc and played some tracks from my cdj's and repeated the process of panning with idenitcal results. To eliminate the possiblity of the mixer creating the white noise I turned it off but the white noise was still audible.
So I started more indepth troubleshooting to try to pinpoint where the problem might be coming from.
I disconnected the XLR's from the mixer and the monitors, yet I could still hear the white noise. I switched the power cables from one monitor to the other with no luck in eliminating the noise.
I have voltage switchers that the power cables connect to as the monitors were bought from the U.S. So I swapped the voltage switcher from the problem free monitor to the noisy one, yet still no improvement.
Now Im thinking that It could be a problem with the wall sockets (Im still in denial here) so I plug the multi adapter out so there is no possiblity of interferance and plug the monitor directly in to the wall socket. You can probably guess how that panned out for me, Thats right, No improvement whatsoever.
My conlusion is probably a fault in the monitor but I can't understand how it could just happen over night. It was working problem free up until now.
The only other thing that I can think of (apart from the monitor itself) is that I had the window open in the room and It is relatively cold outside (about -1). The left monitor would be closest to the opening at about 600mm and the monitor itself was pretty cold. Could this be a contributing factor to my problem?
As you can probably tell I am really desperate to find a fault in something other than the monitor, as having it repaired at this point in time is unfeesable.
If anyone can help shed light on this situation or can advise on what to do next (even if it is sending it out to be repaired) then I would love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance.
