Hi... can you use HUB adapters on a 22-2? I notice they come in 1/4" like the 22-2.

Thanks

Hi there.... I just started using the 22-2 and while looking for tape I have seen some machines with these HUB adapters.

Pardon the newb questions.. Do they help? Exactly what are they used for?

Thanks.

Hub adapters are used for putting large 10.5" (or bigger) reels on a machine that can handle them. The 22 can't handle any spools bigger than 7", so you don't need any.

I'm picking up some tape from a local seller today and he has 1/4" HUB adapters he's practically giving away, will it hinder operation to put these on.. just for looks?

Thanks

Honestly? They're no good for the 22-2. You can stick them on it, but don't expect to be able to do anything practical with them.

However, if they're that much a bargain, it's probably work snagging a couple anyway - if you upgrade to a 32 or other deck that can use them down the road, they'll come in handy.

Thanks for all the info... I think I'll take your advice and pick them up for future use.

You can not and do not need them. Your deck will except 1,4,5, and 7 inch reels. The adapters like jpmorris stated will not work in your case. Your deck has a reel table with a 3 part hold down key. Yet, the 1/4 inch hub adapters will work on 1/4 inch machines, but only if the deck will except 10 1/2 inch reels. As far as I know, the Teac X-10R is the lowest price consumer deck that will begin to need the adapters. BTW be VERY careful about buying nos or used tape. Check Beck's sticky shed threads.

The first pic is for decks that utilize 10 1/2 inch reels. The second is for the smaller decks that uses the 3 keyed hold downs.

Thanks dogdeaspen.... I read the sticky tape thread, great info! I'm using new Emtec/RMG LPR35 which has been working and sounding great. Thanks again.

I have a Sony TC-357-4 which was also only designed for 1/4" tape on 7" reels but that didn't stop me from tricking it out with TASCAM 1" hubs! :D:D

Cheers! :)

:D

Now I'd like to see a pic of 10-1/2" reels on it with 1" tape strung through the tape path. Oh hell, let's just go with 14" reels and be done with it. :p

Hey! I'm good, but not that good! :D

Cheers! :)

I actually did consider putting NAB hub adaptors on one of my 22-2's at one time. There's enough room for an 8-inch NAB metal reel to fit and I thought it might look cool. But it was before the tape crisis of '05 when reels of every kind were cheap and plentiful.

Now the 8-inch reels are harder to find and probably not worth the time and trouble anyway. I'm kinda glad I didn't. I waste too much time as it is fooling around with stuff like that when I should be spending more time recording. :o

It’s the age-old struggle between the engineer and the artist when you’re equally gifted at both. ;)

The 8 inch reels definitely wouldn't fit my Sony...not enough clearance. :o
