Boiling your strings

I am new to this whole internet forum nonsense. My friends, band members, and customers think my guitars and work are the best. Word of mouth around here goes a long way.

Pete -

I fixed yer shit for you.

Since you are new to this internet forum nonsense, I will share with you a little information. Maybe it will be of use to some of the other readers just dropping by for the first time. Check it out:

This is a great forum with great members. Mutt and Zaph are some of them. You can be too.

We even get together for festivals and hang out with each other - spontaneously, openly, and with a high level of trust. Besides a few other boards (that coincidentally share many members) this is an extremely rare and special thing.

Generally, when members disagree with each other, they can have it out in the forums if it's on-topic, or otherwise take it to the Cave. The Cave is pretty much unmoderated, gloves off, and not safe for work.

When members disagree with each other and feel personal about it, generally they send POSITIVE rep with a negative message. Save the red chicklets for stuff that really is out of bounds. Since the rep system is broken here, everybody's got a lot of rep. But since we all generally follow "the rules", somebody walking around with a line of red chicklets isn't going to have a lot of credibility here. That's the way it is.

If talc works for you, keep using it. They're not our guitars. We're all entitled to think it's stupid, and that isn't up to you. If you don't want people to generate opinions about you based on what you say, don't say anything. :)

In summary, HR is fucking awesome, and it's awesome because of the members. It's awesome because of Mutt and Zaph. It's awesome because of you. I hope you stick around.

Obligatory on-topic statement: Just buy some new goddamn strings, you lazy bastards.:p

Do you remember if the Axe-Wipes were straight De-Oxit or if other chemicals were added such as a lubricant? I know with regular De-Oxit the recommended approach is to apply a small amount and then wipe off the surface with a clean cloth. Did the Axe Wipes come with usage instructions? Just curious more than anything. Thanks.

I think I still have the little tub, I save alot of stuff like that. When I find it I will let you know.

Lol, that's tight, guys. He's got what, seven million negative rep points now?

He's just argumentative and wrong - not a douche. :p

It's no worse than putting a humbucker in a strat. :D
He's being a douche, but I'll bet he's redeemable. Unless he's just in it for the trolling.

Ask NotCardio what he thinks about my retrofitting a humbucker into an old LP Special.

And, yes, it's gonna take him a long time to climb out of the rep hole. Hell, they're only chicklets. :D

How about if I record my 2 Martins(with the 13 month old talcum impregnated strings) in my recording studio and post it here for all to hear?
You dont seem to understand, I have no misfortune!
ViP

Do it. It won't "prove" anything, but I'd be curious to hear your playing. :D

If you read it on the internet it must be true, eh? :D

I have been putting a little talc on my hands when I play for about 30 years and neither of those things has ever occurred. It works for me; YMMV.

I'm taking my chances.

Ive never tried it myself...but I bought that EVH issue of Guitar Player...the one with Eruption tabs in it...anyhow it said that he did this with his strings...so Im sure that many kids my age were doing it if they needed it or not.

I preffer to just change them out...I have sets still from buying them at Mars for $1 each several years back...so I got like 100 of them.

I also bought 12 sets of GHS Boomers Bass sets from WallMart for $1 each a few months ago.

I'm thinking of getting one of you guys in the states to buy me loads of strings
and posting them over to me (I'd pay of course) :D

Seriously, prices here are ridiculous. About €7 or €8 for a pack of strings.
And I'm a student with no cash, and a smoker. And it's €8.50 for a 20 box
of smokes. Thats what, like $13 for 20 cigarettes? How much do they run
for over there?

Don't even get me started on the price of talc. It's gone through the roof ever
since it's recently increased popularity :D

Hi,
I found a full tub of the Caig Axe-Wipes. They are nothing like Deoxit. Neither in appearance or smell. They feel a little greasy. They are ivory in color. They are still very moist so they cant be too old. There are specs and instructions on the lid. If you want these let me know, I dont use them, all I use is...... well you know!
VP:D
PS What kind of Rick do you have? I just got a 360/12
