I kow the blue/gold tube LDC has had good reviews and I own a pair of the SCT180 Stereo pencil mics which are pretty good. A little bright but good.

Also worth noting that their entry level ribbon mic is identical/same factory as the NADY RSM1 which retails at over £200, four times the price!

is this the mic your talking about http://www.thomann.de/index.html?pa.../search_dir.html?gk=&bn=&sw=ribbon+mic&oa=pra are the ribbon mics a lot better than the condensers and dynamics. Im thinking about spending the bit extra and going for this mic i want it for acoustic and vocals would it be a good choice

Id rather have a $50 mic that works well in that situation than a $150 shure 55S...it wouldnt work out in my studio...but running a karaoke rig is a nice way to drum up studio buisness...alot of Idol wannabee kids out there with checkbooks.

Well this is what i have been thinking too i cant imagine how much better a 3000 dollar mic could sound compared to a 100 dollar mic. I mean how can anyone justify spending that kind of money on a mic sounds like madness to me but as you said kids with too much money and time

thanks for the link mate but for a guy like me who knows very little its hard to figure which mic would be best for me it does not give much info and also im in ireland so they probably wont ship here

Drop Jon (a.k.a. MsHilarious) an email. He's generally pretty helpful.

I think he'd be happy to see that the next thread you created was better and more focused.

well im just starting out so the mics you mentioned are a little out of my price range but the fast track plus mic plus cable for 222 is a really good price provided the mic is not absolutely terrible. will need a pop filter on top too i suppose

The best advice I ever read and I'm pretty sure it was on this forum was "Buy cheap, buy twice". I wish I had realised this 3yrs ago when I was wasting money on useless cheap gear

Save up and get the right piece of gear, you will be happier in the long run

My take on that, based on the gear I've used, is more along the line of, "Buy smart, buy once" rather than a price thing. I have a few pieces of budget gear that are close in quality to my high end stuff.

Maby so i thought i was going to be banished from the community there for a while :) have you ever heard of se electronic mics in paticular the se 2000 raven46 posted a link here on this thread and it seems perfect for what i want it for

Yes, but I haven't heard one first hand so no comment.

based on the description it gives it would be perfect for what i want
I'd never base a mic buying decision on descriptions that the manufacturers give. It's just ad copy written by the marketing dept like... "warm... detailed... professional... studio standard... perfect for instruments or voice... blah blah blah." There are manufacturers that don't do marketing hype, but they're the exception.

You want a vocal and ac gtr mic right? For ac gtr just get a Naiant XQ. Costs practically nothing but works great. Very accurate/realistic sound. For vocal, it depends on your voice. What works for one singer might be all wrong for another. I'd suggest that you go listen in the mp3 Clinic, find a vocalist you like the sound of, that sounds similar to you, and ask them what mic they used on the track.

Haha ya man I like that even better. I totally agree, I bought a cheap ass guitar from a reputable company as a back up and I like it so much I use it as much as the Les Paul.

Nickey heres a little more info on the Se http://www.seelectronics.com/sE2000.html

I dont know what the Se2000 will sound like. I have a different one, but I can say for the money the build quality is excellent, it has never let me down, but I do take care of it I never leave it out of its case when I'm not using it.

Where are you in Ireland?

Living in wexford mate and you? Had a look about didnt hear good things about that mic but maby im wrong i think i wil go with the naiant xq for acoustic and still stuck for the vocal mic

Hi nickey
Generally I have heard good things about Se.. and have been well reviewed in mags.
If you can get to a semi pro shop like digital Village or others, if your serious it is worth hearing the mics. there is much discussion amongst users as to wot is a good mic, and wot is suitable and great for one voice might not be so for another. I have only once bought a mic not testing first and that was my 50pence bargain Reslo ribbon in 1975 and I still use and love it, but spec wise would not impress...but a lovely warm ribbon sound..a real vintage style,..(read bit crusty, full o character and falls off on the high end, but has somefink???!)
