Hello guys!
I need some help because i am LOST.
I bought:
AT2020 Microphone
M-Audio Fast Track Pro Interface
Behringer xenyx 802 Mixer
And cables and cords for it (mic cables, and guitar cables and so on)
I installed all the CDs and i dont know how to connect it all to the PC

PS: Im not using the pro tools demo they gave me, instead im using kristal audio engine as my recording software :)

i think you should return the mixer personally (depending on if u wanna do drums). it only has 4 tracks and you can't really "mix" on it anyway. just mix on the software.

my question is this. DO you plan on recording drums?

if yes then return the mixer AND interface and get something like an Alesis Multimix 8 USB. u can mic drums sufficiently with that and it acts as an interface.

if not, like jus vox and guitar. then jus return the mixer. you can plug into the interface. then plug the interface into the comp. the software should pic it up.

in any case though, the multimix is a NICE unit for the value. i mean if you enjoy recording its cool to have and its about 150-200 bucks after the release of the newer models and fire wire models. still not really a mixer for mixing though. but thats another convo

hope this helps. thats how i have it setup ne way. :)

Hey, yeah okay i did that...but when i plug in the microphone like no lights pop up saying its in. Is there any way i can put the mixer like into the interface... i got it because i like to have a little more control of my music and it has some nice eqs i like :)
But yeah im too new to understand i need like a step by step detailed tutorial like
Step 1: Put the Usb from interface into computer
Step 2:
Step 3: and so on
If you can help me with this...you are my hero :)
Normally i dont rush but my band is recording tomorrow and i dont know anything haha i just got the stuff today

Edit: No im using EZdrummer for drums :)

Heres where im at so far...
My microphone cable wont plug into my m-audio interface and it wont make sound :(

Step 1: Put the Usb from interface into computer
Step 2:
Step 3: Profit! :D

No really, read your manuals. They'll probably tell you everything you wanna know.As far as your connections pre-computer, if you really wanna use the mixer, you can plug you mic into it, then the main outs from the mixer into the m-audio thing.
If you've got a problem between interface and computer, dunno, maybe call tech support if you're sure you installed it correctly.
You're using a condensor mic. Do you have phantom power on? If not, look it up to find out what it is, then figure out how to turn it on using your manuals. They're an invaluable resource. Really.

Well there's your problem. You gotta plug the microphone in for it to make sound. What kind of cable do you have?

ya no drums then deff scrap the mixer.

trust me its literally useless for mixing its a treb mid and bass. the mixer in the software is most likely a 32 band parametric EQ.

and as far as plugging in. its really just guitar/mic to interface, interface plugged into comp. the interface obviously needs to be plugged in and both interface power and phantom power must be turned on assuming you have a condenser mic. then go into the software and switch the input. it should just pick it up. what software is it again

wait wait what king of cable is it and what kind of input is the interface.

XLR right...???

Input??? haha what software are you talking about?
i am sorry for my newbness by the way :)
are you talking about like the kristal software?

Well by what i mean it wont make sound is when i record with kristal and everything it wont record anything but dead silence :(

yes kristal. No light's gonna come on saying your mic is attached. You know it's attached because whatever program (software) you are recording into starts responding to the mic input. Like, you arm a track and the little green lines next to it start responding to the sounds the mic should be picking up. The fix if it isn't picking up is to figure out how to mess with the input settings in kristal and make sure that kristal is monitoring your audio interface. You can get a MUCH more specific description of what's going on by READING THE DOCUMENTATION that came with your m-audio and Kristal. The specific, exact answers for what you want is going on are in those, I promise.

This is going to make it sound like im being a smartass...im not :) i promise
but m-audio didnt come with a manual ....wich makes me sad. it only came with 3 cds and some book telling how to install it...the closest thing to a manual i have is the features that are on the box :(
and kristal is a free recording software here is their website where you can get it :)

I have the mic cable in slot 1 and there are to buttons i can push on the left of it top one is: Push = Line
non push = Inst
the bottom is pad

ill post a pic showing you my setup
hang on

And here's Kristal's manual:
http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/manual/index.html
And here's the M-audio's maual:
http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/051212_FTPro_UG_EN01_V3.PDF
Can't read them for you, man, but you ought to get in the practice of finding and reading the mauals for every piece of recording equipment you buy. Can't expect to get good sounds from something you don't know how to use.

oh, great!
Sorry you had to baby feed it to me man...ill keep ya updated on whats goin on...after i read these manuals :D
Thanks soo much!! :)

it may have came with some kind of readme thing not alot of stuff wastes the paper any more.

but it is that simple to connect. there is either a problem, you're software doesn't accept the interface (VERY RARE), or you need to go into the audio/midi preferences and change to the USB interface.

and some one back me up on the uselessness of the mixer lol

Man, you were smart enough not to post this in something besides the Newbie forum, so you're cool. Spoon feeding is what this one's for. Good luck, and once you start getting some mixes together, check out the mp3 mixing clinic for some awesome advice and info.
