Anyone used it? Seems to get V good reviews, thinking of using it or something like it to add a better distortion channel to my amp.

Dude it seems like 99% of your posts are about how you are unhappy with your amp's distortion. Here is what to do:

step#1: obtain bugle and flag
step#2: cover amp with flag
step#3: blow taps with bugle
step#4: purchase different amp that sounds good without having to rape it with overpriced distortion pedals

Well theres been 2 or 3 granted but the majority, no. If you've nothing constructive or useful to say why bother posting? I'm well aware my best option would be to buy something like an Engl Powerball or a mesa triple rec, would love something like that. Can't afford one, doubt if i ever will be able to. So for now my only option is to try and get the most use out of the kit i have and can afford.

if that's your case, maybe you should try one of the multi-effects modeling pedals. that'll give you a wide range of distortion sounds to choose from with only one purchase.

i haven't tried the pedal you mentioned but i DO like the krank distortion sound. if you like that sound then go on and give it a try. if it doens't work out though, a modeling pedal would be the most economic thing for you to chase distortions tones with. ;)

Or a Peavey 5150/6505, which is about half the price of those 2 very nice but overpriced amps and will still tear your face off.

I'm old for my 25 years on this earth.

Rock a 5150 series 2, jcm 800 and a tube screamer, mesa Mark IV, Rivera, a cracked to hell and back vox ac 30.......

His advice wasn't delivered maybe as tactfully as it could have been, but in general it's good. If you're unhappy with your amp's sound, pedals are probably not a long-term solution.

By all means go try one with your rig and see how your clean channel takes it, but more likely than not it'll just be a marginal improvement that you'll outgrow one day.

What DO you play? What's your budget for new gear? What tone are you chasing? I hate to be an opinionated prick, but my limited esperience wiith their offerings has been it's usually a good idea to steer clear of anything with the Krank nametag.

Well consider the fact that you're a GUITAR PLAYER.How many of us are ever truly satisfied with our rig. It's always a never ending search for a better tone,distortion,speakers...You could buy the most expensive rig on the planet and two years from now you'll hear some guy playing at the local venue and and will be blown away by the sound he's getting and then you'll go home, turn on your amp and be unhappy with your sound.

Cheers guys. I've thought about the 5150- problem is I've heard very bad things about its clean tone. I'll probably just end up suffering my current amp for a few more years.

In response to what i currently play its a Jackson DK2M, through an NS-2 and a TS7 into an Ashford fallen angel 60w combo- the all tube one before they became hybrid.

If you are just looking for more harmonics for squeeling leads, try some of the various tube pedals, or get a compressor and an EQ. Together you should be able juice your amp a little more. Just another option. But I think a compressor is almost essential.

Really, you put a compressor between a guitar and a distorted amp?

Once you turn it on it is hard to turn off cause the amp sounds thin and weak.

Hmm fair play i'd always read that a distorted guitar amp is already heavily compressed, is there one you'd recommend?

yes, but it's a different type of compression or feel than say adding an MXR DynaComp up front.

have you considered a RevJrPro. It has very decent cleans and a great distortion.

I have, but i've worried about practise volume levels, my 60w is only just loud enough really.

I couldn't imagine not having a compressor. You can use it to add sustain or use it to make your overall sound more balanced. You're basically bringing up the level for more quieter parts and it will also keep your louder parts in check. It can help bring harmonics out.Just watch how high you set the levels cause too high it can cause the clean channel to distort. If you're using your amp's gain i would go into the compressor then into the amp's input.Don't use it in an effects loop.Compression normally goes before the gain stage.

+1 You are using a comp/sustainer pedal to even out your dynamics so that the amp gets a steady signal. That way, you don't have to turn the gain on the amp up as much to get the saturation you want. Picking heavy or soft, you will still get a smooth distortion.
