Hey, everyone. I was all stoked about buying a Paloming V32 but MF doesn't sell them anymore and I'm having a hard time tracking one down. Does anyone have any good recomendations for a tube amp suitable for studio AND gigging. I prefer an FX loop but would sacrifice that if the amp just kicks ass. I don't want to spend more than $350. You all are so much more knowledgable than I am so I appreciate your help. Have a good one.

Nate

Just FYI, I don't know if you want to fix this or not, but your post is saying tube amps for more than $350, not less than $350.

I've heard tons of great things about the Super Champ XD, but I've never played one. Technically it's a hyrbid.

Other than that ... I dunno ... something by Peavey maybe?

Outside of the normal Fender, Crate, Epiphone, and Peavey responses...

There's the Pignose G40V. A rather nice amp with a less than perfect EQ circuit. None the less, meets your price target. With a mod to make the EQ a little more traditional (and effective) it would be a very good amp.

You might be able to score a Blackstar HT-5C for that if you patient. I recently played the stack version and was very impressed.

If you're super-duper patient, you could surely find an Ashdown Peacemker 20 or 40 well within that price range.

Good Luck!

You're so right about the ">" thing. Sorry. Not a huge deal.

Does Peavy make good stuff? Ashdown Peace maker huh? I've never heard of them. I'll look into it. Thanks a lot guys.

You can sometimes find a used Fender Blues Jr for about $350. They are great little amps for some applications.

Keep an eye on ebay and craigslist for the old Carvin x amps. Very under rated, and there's several mods out there for them. The "B" versions offer an FX loop, and a second graphic EQ that really expand the tonal range. IMHO, find the older early 80's versions with the tolex and 6L6 tubes, not the fuzzy carpet. Just personal preference though...

Well, it depends - what sort of tone are you after?

"tube amp" tells us a lot less than "an amp that does a great high gain metal sound" or "a nice, bluesy amp that crunches up really well" or something. I mean, a tweed Fender Bassman and a Diezel Herbert are both tube amps, you know?

Yep, in that range, either the above amp, or the Peavy Vintage 30/50. Both are decent amps on a budget.

I will also say try fender SCXD but do not forget to take your guitar and try the amps in the local stores/friends/etc......

Sorry if I offend anyone but anything under $350 is trash.

Yeah, with a pedal or two, I think I can cover a few blues and classic rock sounds with my Blues Jr.

And "some applications" is on the mark in several ways -- another big variable is the conditions under which you gig -- small vs. largish? I assume you'd be micing the amp -- how much isolation can you provide? A Blues Jr. sitting right next to an aggressive drummer probably wouldn't cut it.

None taken. Feel free to keep throwing money away.

I snagged a Used Hughes and Kettner 20 watt 1x12 for $80.00 last summer. I use it when practicing at low volumes and when recording. I love that fekkin thing.

What the fuck are you talking about???Throwing my $$$ away. I have one Fender Twin that has been my main amp for 5-6 years.
It's not like I go out on amp shopping sprees like some folks buy shoes....

From what I've heard and read, I'd lean toward the Peavey 50-watt tube model--under $400 after some dealing. I had such a Peavey many years ago, and I actually preferred it to my Fender Twin for some of the stuff we played. Don't know if the current Peaveys are as good, but I'd suggest adding them to your audition list.

Spending money on anything music related (as far as a monetary return on investment) is usually just throwing your money away. I know it's like having a heroin needle sticking out of my arm the amount of good musical equipment does my wallet.

However, a used Fender Blues JR is the way to go. The Peavey Bandit 112 is a really nice transistor amplifier that goes relatively cheap.

Good luck! And please report back with what you pick up, I'm kinda interested.

+1 on the Peavey Classic 30. It does alot of things well. $350 would get a clean used one. Also consider the Peavey Delta Blues. It's the same amp with a 15" speaker.

The Classic 50 is way more amp than you need.

Anybody who says something like "anything under $350 is trash" doesn't listen with his/her ears. I took no offense but that's an ignorant thing to say.

I'm talking about useless answers. The OP wants to find something good under $350 bucks, because that's what he's got to spend. There are gems and good amps you can buy for less than that, but you have to sift through the trash to find the right one. Reading a dismissive answer like yours doesn't put enough money in his fucking bank account to buy a '65 Fender Twin, though I'm sure he would like to have one given the chance.

What's the smoothest scotch under $20?
If your answer is I ONLY DRINK MACALLAN'S 1926 THE REST IS SWILL it would look right foolish.
