FYI, yesterday was...
FRIDAY!!

Tomorrow is Sunday. Go Giants. :D :D :D

And yesterday was Saturday:D

By brother flew over from Baltimore with his 16 year old son on Friday and together with an old friend of my Brothers, the four of us went to the Aston Villa vs West Bromwich Albion game yesterday afternoon. Which we won 2-1 to go third in the league..:D:D

My brother bought his son a car for his 16th B'day and the trip to see Villa play (he flew back today and is back in school tomorrow). I remember when I was 16 all I got was a card, a slide rule and a set of socket tools:)

Mike, of course was sixteen before the Wright Brothers flew, so that counted anything to do with flying right out:p

:D

Digital TV
I hooked up my converters today, digital tv rocks!
I already had digital cable on two of my TV's,but I have three with rabbit ears.:D

The best part, with my $40 government vouchers I only spent$15 for three converters.I could only buy one set of rabbit ears for that.

So how are Barney and Mr. Slate doing these days, Fred?

I have an old analog TV that I have connected directly to cable (i.e., no cable box). I'm still trying to figure out whether it will still work after the transition.

However, my money says they're going to postpone the changeover date anyway.

What's an analogue TV? :p

The government here is on plan to switch off the analogue networks in 2011 and so folk here are ramping up ready for the day.

Two years ago we went High Definition too on satelite, having been on satelite digital for 14 years previously. What a brilliant device our new sat box is. Phone rings or we go to make a coffee, we can put the program on pause. We can also record and store programs too. Best thing we have bought in ages.:)

I almost caught the Giants game but I fell asleep during the build up. Seems I didn't miss much:(

Oh well, there's always baseball :D

I have the same thing. I haven't watched "live tv" in ages (except for sports). And even when I'm watching sports I sometimes find myself reaching for the remote to fast-forward through the commercials - until I realize I can't do that with live tv. :(

Occasionally when I want to watch a show the same night it is being broadcast, I'll wait until about 20 minutes after the show has started. Then I'll watch the recorded version, skip the commercials, and usually find that I have caught up with the live feed about the same time the show is ending. :D

The technology is great, but I'm getting a little fed up with paying over $100/month for something that used to be free. As the song goes, 300 channels and nothing to watch.

My car has satellite radio in it. I got a 3-month free subscription when I bought the car, but I never renewed it after that. I don't want to go down the same road as cable/satellite TV. Free radio is quite fine with me - particularly since I am not even in the car that much these days. (I do miss the uncensored, comedy channel a little bit, though.) :(

I've avoided the TVR thing,as part of my ongoing rant of the cost of technology subscriptions.Remember when TV and radio were free, and you only had one phone?Add to that your computer cost and holy cats you could buy a car!

The only show aside from sports I make a habit of watching is The Soup on E!,other than that I like the history channel.I used to like TLC and Discovery, but they went from educational to reality based.:mad:I've caught bits and pieces of Planet Earth on Discovery and it's visually breath taking.

Radio
It's getting better around here, the dumb ass execs have finally figured out people like variety not the same songs over and over and...you get the picture. We've had a few stations adapt the new-jack format with slight boundaries.

I call it the Book of the Month club. Seems these days everyone wants a "monthly payment" from you. You're absolutely right - used to be you had payments for gas, electric and phone. Now you've got cell phone, internet, cable TV, satellite radio, Netflicks, porn sites, health clubs, Onstar, live traffic and weather updates for your GPS, and on and on.

I think my son pays over $100/month just for his iPhone service. (Of course he can, since he doesn't pay for much of anything else.)

p.s. I was just kidding about the porn sites.
;)

That's cold
My boss says we're working Thursday and Friday,I'm not so sure.....

I'd have to set my clothes on fire to work in that.

In fact, I'd probably have to set my clothes on fire just to go outside in that. :o

What is this thread about?
It's about me, pal. It's all about me.

BTW, I was thinking that this time last year all of our teams made it at least as far as the conference championship game - and two of them made it to the superbowl. This year only one even made it to the playoffs (and they were one and done).

What a difference a season makes.

Let's go Yanks. :D

I can't help but think that if Brett Favruh were not so lame in his pitiful display against Miami in the season finale, and thus handing the Dolphins the division, that the Patriots and their 11-5 record might have made things interesting.

BTW, Mike, did you get the song I emailed before Christmas?

There's been lots of speculation that maybe Brady gets traded, what do you think of that?

Favre wore out his welcome in Green Bay,you still have the fanatical Favre man crush crowd, but fewer and fewer.Aaron Rodgers looked pretty good this year.

I was present for the historic 0-16 Lions game.I hope no one loses 16 next year and diminishes the Lions accomplishment or my piece of NFL history.:D

Wisconsin's four day weekend!
PARTY IN THE HOUSE!
I'm off,the kids are off,and I'm betting half the state if not more will be shutting it down.30-40 below windchill warming up to 20-30 below by afternoon.Still there are a couple fools coming into work, can't miss a day on the check.

I think I'll change the strings on my bass,I can't remember the last time I did that.
