It has been my experience that "audio" racks use equidistant holes.

All of the server racks I use have the odd spacings. Although they should be consistant based on 1u incriments.

The racks I have always used for years had 2 holes close together, then one apart. Repeat. The last few sets of rack rails I got from MA had equidistance holes. With the equidistance holes, you are forced to leave a gap somewhere. I use this gap where ventilation is desired.

For those that recieved group buy preamps I'd love to hear sound files comparing them to other preamps you own. If you have time to kill :D

Agreed. That is the problem I was having - equidistant holes = problems.

patience my friend.......:D:D

It scares me knowing that a doctors professon is called a "practice"

Good point. My wife's a lawyer and she tells people she's been practicing for "x" number of years, I usually interject and say, "Don't worry, she's almost got it down pat."

1st Impressions - pre's sound thick like I would expect them to. Still checking to make sure everything works. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Daddy like....

we have already established the thickness....remember the rack problem???

:p

Since I can never seem to post jpgs here, I posted the 2 different styles of rack-rail we have been discussing on the PSW board. Someone want to drag them on over here,,, go for it.

Toy Test Update..........

I wish I had a mic splitter, but I don't. And I wish I had decent VO talent, but I don't - only my voice tonight. And that doesn't really make the cut.... :D :D

So it's REALLY not a scientific test, but the putting the ACMP73's up against one of my API512B's, I have to say that i'm impressed. Again, my impressions are not scientific in any way, but the ACMP73's don't suck compared to the API's when being driven by a pair of ACM1200's. Different, but good.

The pair of 1200's that I have feeding the pre's definately aren't matched, so switching the mic's against the 73/512B combo doesn't really tell me anything other than both mics (1200's) and both pre's - 512B OR ACMP73 - sound good.

I know you guys are craving a better test, but until I have some good sources to record later this week or next, that's the best I can do.

I will go on record as saying the pre's are decent - good even. Maybe even very good. :D :D It will be interesting to hear them up against a real 73/84. I know some of you guys have access to the real deal. Unfortunately, I don't tonight or any time in the near future......

I'm looking forward to putting the mics and pre's thru their paces in the near future with some great source material - unfortunately I just don't have that opportunity tonight - but soon.

Enjoying the new gear Chance.

OH, BTW - for those with Ribbons - one of my ACM2's came out of phase. You might want to check yours. All the other Fig8 mics i received - ACM3's, ACM4's, ACM200 and the other ACM2 I got were all perfect.

PS - I'm digging the ACMP LED lit switches. Really cool.

EQ is sounding cool, but I really don't have enough time with it yet to have any decent thoughts....

DrBill, I'd like to hear more about that. I have a pair of ACM-1200s on order and definitely hoped to use them for stereo OH. What are you hearing that's different across these mics?

Chance - on the topic of the 1200s, when might we expect to hear whatever upgrade announcement has been hinted about here? :)

They're very close, but they are not a matched pair and shouldn't be considered as such. There were hundreds shipped, and I got a couple.....

I don't see any problems using them as stereo OH. That's one of my main uses!!! They are certainly close enough for that :D:D

But in my test above, with different speaking at different times thru different mics and pre's.....I could notice a difference. I chock some of it up to the fact that they are not a matched pair, but mostly due to the fact that it's been a 16 hour stressful day, and I'm not great a duplicating VO perfectly.

I do NOT want to suggest that the mics are very different as someone else has emailed me about exactly that. I think they are VERY close -just not perfectly matched. For anyone who's perfectly matched a stereo pair of mics, they well know how many you have to listen to to find the perfect matched pair.
