still waiting for my ribbons....
Hey, I guess I missed this the first time around, but could someone link me to the CafePress site? I just tried searching their site and I couldn't find TnC!
Thanks.
Edit: NM!! Found them!
Hey Bill, just curious, but did you try checking the acmp mounting in the other style rack rail?
drBill, Any indication of how hot the chasis gets during use?
Hey Chance!!! Yes I tried racking them in another rack and had the same problems. I had to use an 8 space rack to mount 6 of them. 2 ACMP, 1 blank, 2 ACMP, 1 blank, 2 ACMP. I think something is going on, because I couldn't even wedge a blank panel into the blank spaces.Something funny going on.....

Did I tell you these guys are HEAVY???!!!??? 6 of them in 1 rack with the rack being made of wood and the thing is close to 100, yes that's right ONE HUNDRED pounds. The pre's with no wiring and no rack are right at 85 lbs.I can only lift it a few inches off the floor to put it on a dolly to move around. I need an assistant. Anybody got a strong back and want to intern???
Not very. I had them on for a couple of hours stacked 4 next to each other with no spaces and they were just warm, not hot at all. I wouldn't worry about it.
Did I mention these were heavy????![]()
Hey Bill
Do you mind me copy/paste some of your posts to PSW?
Hey Doc. Could you put a caliper on them and give us an exact measurement of the height? Might could be that a quick brush with a belt sander might be all that's needed. Aluminum does not grind well but a hit or two with fine grit might do it. Of course it would mess up the paint but if you're careful and touched it up a bit it might not be noticeable. Just a thought. (I knew there was a reason I only got one) LOL

NOt at all. Maybe I should sign up and paste my whole two long posts over there??
I think we all really appreciate the hard work involved, Chance. A big Thank You! I don't know how you're doing it. Seems like you're normally pretty busy with just the studio!
BTW, were you able to verify that all the payments are coming into your account and not PayPal? Thanks.

That would be prefered
Chance and others -
Just an update on the rack spacing thing as I see many on PSW seem to have the wrong impression and I can't seem to log on there or get registered for whatever reason.
I have tried TWO commercially built racks, and neither of them will house more than 3 ACMP's stacked right on top of each other. Dremeling out the holes may work for the 3rd unit, but by the time you get to the 5th or 6th unit, you will be completely thru the faceplate. It's THAT far off.
I feel like I'm in some weird episode of the Twilight Zone. I've built or helped build many many studio's in my life, with rack gear numbering in the hundreds, and I've never run into a problem quite like this.
Maybe both these racks have weird spacing on the holes. One seems equidistant, and the other has some subtle differences in the spacing, (not like the picture shown by chance) but both have the same issue. But I really don't think that the spacinig of the holes is the complete issue, because I cheated the top units all the way towards the top, and the bottom units all the way towards the bottom, and I couldn't even WEDGE a blank spacer inbetween them. Maybe if I wasn't worried about scratching them I could have taken a hammer and knocked it in, but I chose not to do that.
My solution was 2 units, space, repeat - no blanks in the spaces.
Am I missing something here??
I generally use pre-fab HARDWOOD rack rails when possible (for superior ground isolation issues) and have never had this problem, but these are going into a portable (kinda, but it's HEAVY. Did I mention these were HEAVY???) rack that needs metal rails.
At this point I have about (10) 20 space racks filled in my studio - no problems other than the normal tight fits. So.........am I in the twighlight zone and if so, how do I get out???
PS - maybe someone can post this over on PSW thread to help out.
