I currently have a Lexicon Omega Pre-Amp. It also acts as my sound-card, for my computer.

I'm hoping to upgrade, hopefully to get a more "crisp" or "airy" feel when recording vocals, on my new Shure KSM-32 mic. I guess I need a new soundcard/pre-amp.

I'd like to know the cheapest but most effective pre-amp/sound card to marry-up with my Shure KSM-32. I'll be using the Lexicon-Omega as a trade-in, so about how much will your suggestion cost, and what's your estimate on my trade-in?

To give you an idea of where I'll be trading, I recently got $100 for my 4-year old Rode NT-1A microphone, original tag $300.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If something comes with Adobe for free, that'd be huge. (the lexicon came with cubase, which i didn't use).

Are you saying that your budget is $100? If that's so, I don't know anything that's worth buying. The "worth buying" market starts around $300.

Hi,

Consider the DMP3 pre amp by M-audio its not bad for the price.

I have one, and it is fairly transparent.

Best of Luck

thank you and no, my budget is not $100. WTH?

it's roughly $500 ABOVE whatever I'll get for my trade-in.

Dude, read your original post. All you mentioned was $100 from a mic sale, and nowhere did you mention $500 above a trade in. So chill on the WTH stuff...

To your original question--be careful. You can spend $2000 on a single channel and still not have that open, airy sound you're looking for if your room won't deliver.

Make sure you've addressed getting a great sound in your room before you spend that money on capturing the sound. Otherwise there won't be a great sound to capture...

That's all really good advice. At the $500 mark, for airy and open you're probably looking at a P-Solo or the Grace-101. They're definitely both on the transparent side of things. The RNP is fantastic at that price, but it's not what I would call "airy"...it's got some color to it.
