Can any of you recommend a modestly priced music stand that doesn't fold up? I'm fed up of having music books falling off & bending the thin metal of those horrid folding stands. I'd really need a solid holder with anti-page-folding-over-to-the-wrong-section facility - a page holder, I suppose that means.

GC sells a stand called, I think, a "conductor's stand". It's got a telescoping tubular upright section, tripod legs, and a solid metal (non-folding) top section. It's $30-40, I believe. I've got one and it's great. I got it the day after I had one of those lightweight folding stands dump a 3 inch three ring binder on the floor, which opened it up and scattered over 100 painstakingly alphebetized "cheat sheets" all over my studio floor. I feel your pain.

Yep, I use the same one. Real decent stand.

There are several alternatives, but one thing I think we can agree upon is that those flimsy fold-up stands are OK if you want to hold up a few loose sheets, but if you want to put a book of any appreciable size on them - they suck.
