Trailing Behind Again
Spank Me

Here is the remix I told you about!

To anyone else: WARNING, EXPLICIT LYRICS AND ADULT CONTENT!!!

Now that I can post songs again, maybe I'll actually post one for critiques.

You can critique this one, but it's a 3 year old birthday present for True-eurt...

just got done listening to it. pretty funny sounding, but i gotta be honest, it sounds pretty rough! i can't really understand most of the lyrics because they're buried in reverb and a have a strange tinny quality i can't quite describe.

that snare sound gets pretty maddening rather quickly.

i'm really sorry, man--i'm not trying to tear it apart, and i realize it's 3 years old. just felt like you were owed a response...:o

the whip crack during the 1st verse is a keeper though! :D

Uh, yeah.....

I did this thing when I had no idea how to track, so a lot of rules were broken.

The guitars are DI'd through a Fostex MR-8, and the crappy efx onboard.

The drums are a yamaha keyboard... nuff said!

As far as the vocal, I eq'd the crap out of it because it was just a mic (and a really cheap one at that) plugged directly into the MR-8. Nothing I've done could fix it.

And to top it all off, I am mixing on my laptop with headphones because I am on a ship in the middle of the Pacific and away from all my gear... and that most of all has a lot to do with the mix.

I really need to get home.... :(

Yeah, it's rough, but I think at the time it was intended to be tlhat way. The only changes I made over the first mix is that I moved the guitar solo to the center of the song, and the sound bytes are different.

And I over processed it this time... :o

True, let me know if it's to your liking. If not, I will post the raw tracks as a PMC and see what the masters can do with it...

Glad you liked it.

nah man!...don't change it!!
THE SONG IS WHAT IT IS!......It's great in all aspects and is totally within context!!.....I like the feel/mood very much....and I understand that it was an 'intended' thang.....it's not pretentious at all.....rock-on!..:):):)

Thanks. I hope others feel the same way, especially the one it was intended for!

:D:D:D...Hey Rokket...!!! This has got to be one of the best songs ever written...

I can put the original up and the one you redid in 2006 on mysoundclick if you'd like for comparison. So far as I listen, there are parts I like better in the earlier version and some I like better in this recent one. I do miss hearing the lyrics plainly..cause those are great!!:D

Sorry it has taken so long to comment. Between work, family and other commitments, I couldn't listen much...anyway, not attentively. In fact, I am still in the process of doing that!!

I'll work on the vocals and post it for you privately...

Thanks for the listen!

btw, pm me and let me know what you liked about the original and this new one. Maybe I can make a good compromise!

That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard.

Yeah the drums were pretty cheesey, but otherwise the other instruments and vocals fit together quote nicely in a grungy, raw kind of way.

The sound clips were kind of ... weird. The felt like the stuck out a bit much. Would there be a way to blend them in with the music so that they sound a little more natural?

Not until I get home and work with my monitors instead of headphones...

A good laugh!
There're some things you could do to polish it - but I don't know that it's necessary - it's funny & gets the humour across.
More subtle sound effects would be subtler - I don't think that's the point either.
It's not menat to be jazz after all (or was it?)

If it was, I missed! :D

I think the funniest side joke is in the second verse. "Don't rush me, big boy!"

SPANKY from the little rascals.... :D

I could probably polish this with more time on decent monitors. But the DI guitars are a pain. I wouldn't want to retrack because I think it would lose its feel. This started out as a drop-D experiment, which is why I think there is such a drone to the guitars.

But I still like it after 3 years. I think that's important.

It's a funny tune-for sure, it reminds me of the days of my early garage bands-rough sounds and all. The solo definitely is garage sounding in a good way-do you or True have an earlier mix for comparison?

I have one Tony...the lyrics are clear in it...that is one reason I like it best....and of course..the intro on it is awesome with the cracking whip!!!...I'll have to post it on my soundclick page ...give me a few minutes...

Give me a couple months, I'll give you this version with the vocals more clear. I don't really know what happened. They sound clear on my cd player, and on my laptop. Probably the damn headphones, and the fact that I am so used to it...
