A Reel Person
It's Too Funky in Here!!!
On the other hand, I know...
hooking a front-end mixer to something like the PS5 and MR-8 is commonplace and well accepted with most users. I've even know a user on this board to F/E his 788 with an M30 mixer, (an especially good idea).
Also, (if you read the mags, books & boards),... bouncing tracks together is accepted practically as a necessity in the process of tracking or mixing. Why would the DP01/02 be any different?
I judge gear like the DP-02 based on it's value as a standalone unit, as an 8-track. F/E mixing or buss-assign architecture is a make/break sticking point for me, a lot of times when I'm evaluating gear.
Believe it or not, some people aren't going to be inclined to compile a gazillion tracks on their 'puter and mix in the box, or want to bounce tracks together as a necessity during production.
I'm not sure I'm sold on the DP-02, vs. concieving of what I can do on my other gear. F/I, I see something like the TASCAM 488mkII, 688 or 388 as way more powerful than the DP-02.
