my wife stopped at the source last night to pick me up some blank cd's and the price had gone from 15 bucks for 50 to 38. apparently they're phasing them out in favour of dvd's, and the price is going to go up even more. that really sucks. my tascam requires cd-r's to function properly.

Just checked a few of the many on-line retailers. CD-R 100 disc packs average from $16 US to $21 US. I don't really see any price increase there.

yeah my wife found some on ebay too that are decently priced. my wife went to the source yesterday and that's where she found the 38 dollar ones. maybe it's only the source so far. i hope so, i don't want to have to scramble to find cd's like people have to do for tapes now.

Ya gotta wait for the sales at places like FutureShop. They regularly drop the prices way down for a pack of 100.
Either that or buy them in bulk online. You won't get the groovy plastic round case to hold them all in, but you'll pay a lot less.
I can't see CDR's going out of style anytime soon. Too many people use CD players that require them.
The only way I could see it happening is if they started mass producing a DVD format CD player or something so that CD's went obsolete.

Although, I think CD's and DVD's probably only have a couple of decades of use left in them before they'll be replaced by broadband downloading. I haven't bought a CD in years because it's easier to just get them online. I wouldn't even buy DVD's if I could download them fast enough to make it practicable.

My disclab required CDRW of a certain speed - THEY certainly have started to acquire hen's teeth status.

I buy blank CDR's off the net for $.17 each, 100 each case. They look great too, they have a white printable top. Forget where I got them though.

I wouldn't be suprised if dvd's went out in a few years too.

I don't see any of this phase out happening too soon.

1. CD-R's are also backup medium too, and how many PC's have only a CD burner. They still sell blanks floppy discs.
2. In Canada, blank CD prices are increased due to tariffs on then. Could this be the reason for a price increase. The Source staff are not "the source" of tech savy or industry trends.
3. When something is being discontinued, the price usually drops.
