Dude, some guy gave me shit for the same reason.

Anyways, I bought a Peavey VK100 head and its blown up on me twice. Yuck. So right now, I have a Crate Powerblock and its working out okay, I guess. Oh yeah, I have a Crate Vintage Club 30 all tube combo thats pretty nice, but needs new tubes REAL BAD.

Not sure what I'm going to go after if I get rid of this VK100. Maybe an Orange.

I just picked up a Peavey Classic 50/212 for $500 the other day. Amazing amp.

lol, I hate old threads. I dont even own a Fender amp anymore. My main 3 are a Divided By 13 and 2 Vox amps.

of course marshall
theres no better combination than fender strat and marshall amp

PEAVEY all the way however I prefer the JSX over the triplexxx or the 6505
the jsx kicks ass! I will put it up against everything except diezel or vht

It really depends on the type of music, but Peavey has 4 great Rock/Metal heads, XXX, JSX, 5150 and 6505. Aside from Mesa they have the most to choose from IMO for Rock/Metal.

Crate's Blue Voodoo 120 and 150 dialed in are great, must be too old or something if everyone thinks Crate blows.

For those on a budget, the Hafler T3 kicks some ass with a Mosfet Power Amp ( $250 combo there ).

I didn't read all 11 pages but Randall has to have the weakest tone right now, it's stuffy crap that a 31 band eq would have a hard time making sound any good ( except the X2 for you metal heads ).

Hard to diss Bogner or Soldano for rock and say what you want about Kranks Krankenstein for Dimebag but that has a unique tone.

IMO the Marshall AVT is not worth keeping alive in the Marshall family.

And if anyone mentions Line 6 and good tone then you need to spend a day in a pro recording studio, no Line 6's are used for recording pro tone.

Crate - That company is on my shit list forever, and I don't give a rats ass what they make. It's all cheap junk.

Right. Tell ya what. Bring your Peawey over and stack it up against my Mesa Dual Rec. Then we can start with page one in your lesson book.;)

The Crate Palominos, Blue Voodoos, and Black Voodoos are fantastic amps, but everything else they make is junk, yeah.

Most companies just don't know how to make a good solid-state.

That's because there is no such thing.:D

I think it depends on the sound you are looking for. In my 50 years of guitar playing I have used soling state and tube amps for different sounds.

I even used a hybrid rig of a Kustom 200 and a Supro tube amp back in 1970 because it produced a certain sound that I needed.

Right now I own 13 amplifiers some are solid state, some are hybrid and some are all tube. Each performs a role when needed.

ROFL!!! All I own is a ST, and I'm beginning to think the same thing.

Didn't Dime Bag Darryl (spell check that) play a solid state? Don't remember the brand off hand, and I could be wrong.

As far as solid states giving you the sound you want... well.... I think there's a difference between 'what you want' and 'what is pretty acceptable at the moment'.

All I know is, it seems that just about every great band and every great recording uses tube amps. So... 1,000,000 musicians can't be wrong, right?

Forgot to mention.... I played on that Blue Voodoo once, and it stunk.

Or was that the Red Voodoo.... heck, can't remember now. I just remember seeing the Crate sign, and hearing this thin, over priced, sound puking from the cab..... just like all the other crate products I've used.

All you need is one Boogie Road King to do all that.

Mabey ..... but I got a lot of old toys. What I really need is a new ES335 not another amp. I mostly just use my Traynor YCV40WR these days and it sounds great with my old Gretsch. I also like the YCV50 and I just might buy one for my new ES335 .... now if I only had some money.

Old musicians never fade away they just die of starvation eventually.

As a proud owner of a Mesa Dual Rectifier, I have to say that if price/irresistable deals weren't an issue I would be playing an Orange.
