Hi all

I have a Midiplus 61 Midi keyboard controller that I use to trigger VST instruments. I used to use the gameport interface on my old Soundblaster Audigy (I know ) to both power the keyboard and as a midi interface.

I recently changed my motherboard for one that has no gameport and also dumped my Audigy for a Focusrite Saffire LE audio interface.

I now have the problem of how to power the keyboard. It has 3 ports on the back. Midi in, Midi out and and a 15 pin gameport one labelled 'DC in 5v adapter/to pc sound card'. I know I can connect the midi ports to the Focusrite but I still have to power. Is it possible to buy this kind of DC adapter, I've never seen one and can't find one after looking. I suppose I could reinstall the audigy and just use it to power the keyboard but I'd be worried it would conflict with the Focusrite and I'd rather be rid of it completeley. In any case it's not a very elegant solution. Can I power the keyboard another way? Or maybe buy a pci gameport midi interface (although I've never seen such a thing)?

All help greatly appreciated

Can you not just plug that keyboard into a USB port? I don't think you HAVE to use a midi port. That way it's independent of your soundcard.

BTW glossed over the part about your having lost the adapter.

You should be able to find a 5V DC adapter easily, then just plug the midi out into the midi in on the saffire

How old is this controller, and does it not have a separate power connector you can use? If not, you might be able to figure out what pins of the 15-pin connector are the power, and then get a standard 5v wall-wart plug, and wire it to a cut-up 15-pin DSub cable, and then simply use the MIDI I/O with your newer interface.

1. It does not have usb
2. USB is 12VDC, not 5

Thanks for all the help, especially the wiring diagram, I had been looking.:)

Just to clarify: as ridiculous as it sounds, the keyboard has no means of receiving power other than a 15 pin port, the old style 'gameport' kind found on old soundcards and some motherboards. I could try and splice a plug but I'm certainly no electrician, so I guess there's no way of powering the thing without a suitable connector on your motherboard or soundcard. Seems ridiculous but there you go I guess. Another thing that'll have to be replaced I suppose.

If anyone has any more ideas I'd really appreciate them as it seems a waste to dump it being as it works perfectly well.

Thanks again

Matt

Doesn't use batteries unfortunately! :D

Think I may power it off the old Soundblaster, thanks for all your help guys.
