Still waiting on SPI

Let us be unburdened by that which has been ?
Disclaimer: The following is based on my experience and may vary by location.

So a couple of months ago I called my local SPI. The saleman told me the procedure was to send a Purchase Order for what I wanted. I talked with him to find out what product was available and how many per package, etc. I sent a Purchase Order to them for 3" 6# insulation boards (2x4' per board, 4 boards per package on the 3" 6#). $74 and change for a package of four sheets.
I received a call later that day confirming my order...pretty quick service, I thought. However, the gentleman in the warehouse I spoke to said that the supply truck from up north had just left the previous day, and that for the low, low price of $83 I could have a special delivery shipped or I could wait until the next month's shipment. I opted for the latter option. I have still not heard back from them two months later. I have since purchased another pair of MiniTraps "seconds" that became available (thanks for another smooth transaction, Ethan) and figure if the SPI order comes in, I'll use the boards for clouds. Has anyone else had a delay from SPI like this? I guess I will need to call and follow up with them.

you know what, they pulled that same shit on me about a year ago. i called local SPI and they said they would order me some boards, and then they called me back and said "oh our truck had already left, so it's gonna take another month". exact same shit. but i just cancelled.

I did not have any issues.
I ordered from the local Dallas SPI.
I talked that day, they took my order over the phone. I set up for delivery for a Friday morning (went in late to work) They showed up right on time and even helped me carry it into the building.

Maybe it has to do with the size of the order. I ordered about 100 pieces of 2 ".
It was enough to where I made the minimum $500 order needed for free delivery.

Anyway... good things to say about Dallas SPI anyway.

:eek::eek: wtf????s  I just made a 13 hr round trip, a miserable 3 hour jaunt across the city of Portland Or, on a friday, sit in the sun/freeway and burn, and burn gas, and another 3 hours on the way back through Portland, just to pick my order up from SPI in Portland. And NOW, someone tells me they have FREE delivery for a $500 or more order?????? I spent $681, after spending over an hour making phone calls etc. They NEVER mentioned FREE delivery.:mad::mad: I"M PISSED!!! My SECOND order better have free delivery or I'll buy it somewhere else this time. Of course it would have been a bitch shipping my order. Six 4'x10' panels, 4" thick. Filled my pickup to the brim.

OOps!
Rick,
I had ordered like 17 bundles, and was finalizing the deal, and the sales guy said: "man if you spend for 2 bundles more you get free shipping. It's pay for shipping or pay for product and get free shipping... which do you want?"
He's my bud NOW!
It filled a goodly portion of their box truck.
I'd of had to make at least 3 trips from the country to Dallas to carry that much stuff.

Yeah, I don't think SPI are probably set up well to deal with "the little guy." But I was able to get a shipment from them into town (200 miles from KC) on a truck with little hassle and reasonable rates. Only thing is I had to go pick it up from the truck hub place and load it in my car -- couple trips totally packed. Luckily I live near this particular truckline.

Yeah, I'm just a lower priority priority to them because of my small order. But I'm certainly not going to pay $83 shipping costs for a $73 order. I'll hold on to my seat and see what comes...I'm sure they'll fit my order onto a truck one of these days.
Meanwhile, the lower frequency build-up in the back corners of my room has been eliminated with the final 2 MiniTraps placed in the back corners. Previously, I would hear a low, rumbling boom every time I would hit the snare drum (DM Pro sampled snare) through the monitors when I was sitting back in the area at the kit. Now, no booms. I still want the SPI fiberglass to further refine any issues over the mix position (haven't heard any yet, but I'm not really to the point of heavy mixing yet), but for now I'm set to begin tracking.

+1
I don't think it's any kind of conscious decision to screw the little guy or put him as a lower priority. DIYers just have different communication needs and timeframes. My SPI was very nice to deal with, and i had to wait for the truck to come 'round with my Certainteed, but everything was cool.

hmm for what you spent I am surprised they are trucking it to you..I had to pay for that. So I did a pretty large order and it sat in the garage for a while.

I think what they are doing is putting the order on a truck that makes regular deliveries to Ft. Lauderdale when they get spare room. I got the monster cool MiniTraps in the corners and foam everywhere else, so I'm pretty set anyway. The SPI stuff, if it comes in, will just be icing on the cake judging from what I'm hearing inside my walls.
