I recently got a pair of Behringer 2030A monitors and I have a question. I'm plugging my synth, bass, and computer into the mixer, using the computer as my recording device... now, playing the mp3's from my computer the monitors sound great... playing the instruments don't produce the same kind of results. Although the high frequencies sound good the lower I get the more buzz I get coming out of the monitors. The monitors are new so I don't think anything is wrong with them... but why does this happen? Is this just something I have to live with, or is there something I can do?

on my bass the buzz seems to come on strongest when i play high up on the E string, for whatever reason....

Sweetnighter,

Is the bass the only instrument that produces this noise?
try a different bass or guitar and see if it goes away. If comes from any instrument you try its possibly in the other components/combination of the system and not the instrument(s). If you do isolate it to the bass then better shielding inside the bass itself may be needed (also try a better cord first). Basically opening it up and putting a full Faraday cage or "metal shield" (using metal tape around the connectors and the pickups that connects to the signal cable shielding conductor. Shielding in guitars is tricky and most manufacturers could do a better job. Oh p.s. carefully open the bass electronics hollow out/pickup area and check and ensure all ground wires are connected correctly, clean, and are all tight. hope that helps.

If your MP3s sound fine, but your recorded material doesn't, then the problem lies not with your monitors, but with some other part of the recording signal path.

You should examine carefully the levels you are recording at in case you are getting distortion at this point. You should check things like leads and other gear to make sure that they are not introducing hum or other noises.
