Someone needs to jump all over this...

Someone posted this in a post earlier but I don't remeber where and it needs to be known. Anyone looking for a great vocal/acoustic mic needs to jump on this in a second. The price is absolutely insane and Fletcher has even, on several occasions, said he was pretty impressed with this mic...

    F/S Two MXL 603s

I'm selling my pair of MXL 603s. They aren't "factory matched" or anything but I've never noticed any problems. One of them was replaced by MXL for a defective one so it has been used a whopping two times as drum overheads. I'll throw in a pair of Tensimounts and let them go for $155 shipped...

    Pink Floyd Dark Side DVD

Every now and then it seems a thread pops up asking how to get some of the sounds on DSOTM. I heard today that for its 30th anniversary, Pink Floyd is releasing a DVD that breaks down the recording of the album track by track with running commentary from the members and Alan Parsons (engineer)...

F/S Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare

F/S Pearl Chad Smith Signature Snare and Pearl Maple Piccolo I'm selling my Pearl Chad Smith Signature steel snare. Size is 5x14. This is the newer model with the brass tension rod receivers and stainless steel tension rods (way cool). I also upgraded the snares to Pearl's top of the line...

Ethan or anyone else in the know...

You have mentioned that 705 has a reflective backing that can be face into the room to reflect higher frequencies. My question is this: If all you have to work with is 703 could you in theory cover one side of it with something like tinfoil before covering with fabric and then alternate these...

    Great Deal FYI

I was flipping through the new Woodwind and Brasswind, "Drums in the Wind" catalog this morning and when I got to the closeouts section I almost spit out my orange juice. This morning I picked up a Pearl Masters BRX birch snare, size 5x13 for $92!! I couldn't believe it and neither could the...

    ART Tube MP on snare

I gave this a try last night and have to say that I am pretty impressed. Depending on the sound you're going for of course, throw a 57 into a Toob MP on a snare and crank the gain. Huge and fat and "smacky." :)

    VF160 backups on another unit

Has anyone backed up a program on their VF16 or VF160 and then restored it on another machine? This should work in theory. A friend of mine that now lives a thousand or so miles away wants to do the long distance thing with me and I was thinking that if he gets a VF160, it would be way easier...

    Thickness of diaphragm

After reading something in a book lately about how condenser mics can have a metal coating on the diapragm of a couple of microns, is this what is referred to as the thinness of a diaphragm? Or, is it actually the mylar itself? With all the talk lately about thin diaphragms, just looking for...

    Various tube mics

As Uncle Sam was nice to me this year (tax wise), has anyone had a chance to compare the CAD M9 with the Rode NTK? I never hear anyone even mention the CAD yet I've run across a couple of reviews that say it "comfortably undercuts" it's competitors (Rode, AKG solidtube, etc). Thanks...

    Studios as a business

This question is for all of those who don't do this for a living but have a nice little project studio where you charge others to record them: How many of you actually have your studio registered as a business and how many do it kind of "under the table"? Just curious...

    The next step....I think

Ok I hate questions like this but I would really like some opinions on this. I'm not asking a "Just shut up and tell me what to do" question...just a little advice is all. I've got $400-500 to spend. My current setup involves a Fostex VF160, Art Toob MP, CAD M37 (circuit board says M177), a...

MD review of Shure PG series

Did anyone else catch the March Modern Drummer review of the Shure Performance Gear series? It was said that the PG52 (the cheaper version of the Beta52) held it's own when placed right alongside a D112. The D112 had a little bit of a lower fundamental, but both were equally deep and punchy...

    MIDI Software...

Being totally new to the MIDI thing I have a hopefully simple question...what is some good basic MIDI sequencing software? I'm looking for a program that will let me pick my instrument and plug notes in on a staff. Thanks....

    Ibanez Acoustic

Anybody that's looking for a great budget (actually forget budget, just a great guitar) acoustic should check out the Ibanez AW10. For $199 I absolutely cannot believe the playability and tone of this thing. Anybody else have similar luck? :)

    C1 Features

The SP website lists in the features of the C1 that it has a high pass filter and a 10db pad. I thought that I had read in several different reviews that the mic didn't come with a filter or pad?

    Another VF160 editing thread...

Ok so I took the foray into editing on the VF160 and a couple of questions arose. For editing some errant snare hits, I used the Move command which for some reason left the original hit in place. When played back, I heard the original hit along with the newly pasted one. Shouldn't it of...
