    keeping track of TRACKS

I used to have the Tascam 788 Portastudio and it allowed me to Name tracks (i.e. Guitar 1, Tele 1, LesPaul 2, Snare, etc.). My new Tascam DP-24 cannot do this. Is there some simple, generally accepted way to keep track of all these Tracks? I've tried Post-a-Notes, colored stickers, etc...

    Clear up the term "Mastering"

Maybe I'm missing something here : I have the Tascam 788 and I can mix down / "pre-master" on the machine using internal and external FX and then burn it to a CD. I am seriously considering a 2488neo (more tracks=more fun, right ?). The 2488neo claims to have "mastering effects, etc " and...

    recording falcetto oooohhhhs

I sometimes make background OOOhhhhs using my (almost acceptable) Falcetto voice and harmonizing & doubling etc. Often I get a very resonant booominess in the voice that I can't seem to EQ out. I can't seem to find a position on the Mic to avoid this ( I use AKG C100 and Groove Tubes MD1B...

    C100 & preamp

Been using an AKG C1000 thru a Blue Tube/Blule Max into my Tascam 788 for several years now and am increasingly unhappy with my Vocals. I do lots of overdubbing/harmonies on country/blusey songs and seem to get more shrillness & distortion & mud as I blend the voices. Anyone suggest possible...

SR-16 sync to Tempo Map ?

A semi-newbie question........ I found a good working one-man-method for song writing/recording demos. I set up a Tempo Map on my Tascam 788 Portastudio and sync my Roland TR-707 Rhythm Composer to it via MIDI. I can then record guitars, vocals etc in sync with the Drums and go back and tweak...

    painfully dumb question

I've been recording at home for years, first with a Tascam Portastudio, now with a Tascam 788 Digital Portastudio and have some mixers, drum machine, monitors, rack gear etc. and am at the point where I can make pretty good recordings by myself. Big problem is, once I get outside of the 788...

    Backward Guitars ?

I used to be able to record backward guitar on my old Tascam Portastudio by flipping the tape over and hearing the backing track backward, etc....it was a cool effect. Now I have my Tascam 788 Digital portastudio and don't have a clue how to get a backward track............any advice out there...

    Tascam 788 preamps

I've been using my 788 for approx 2 1/2 years and am thinking about springing for the new 2488. Does anybody know if the mic preamps are the same for both units ???? opinions welcome

    dumb question on mixdown/mastering

for reference: I do home recording of my songs on a Tascam 788, using a drum machine & singing/playing all instruments. Sorry if this seems incredibly basic but.............. When I mix down (pre-mastering in Tascams parlance) it is done in REAL TIME, that is , there is no Pause control, etc...

    home monitors

I've been using NS-10's for years and have no experience with any other monitors in my bedroom studio. What would you consider a healthy step up the quality ladder. My music is mostly retro 60's and country. opinions welcome
