With amp mod blowing up so fast, do we really need to mic the amp while recording or would direct line on a mod do just as well?

Right now I am using a 57 on the bass and snare... with two condensors a few feet from the front to grab the brass etc... Any mics a little cheaper than the 57 that will work as well for drums?

I read a post on here about monitoring and i tried it. I went options, audio, input monitoring and turned it on. Now I get feedback/delay to the b ooth and through the mics. I tried turning it off but as soon as i hit play or record it is doing it again.
