    Cool e-Bay TASCAM score

Picked this up for $99 with cables. Works great! Nice to be able to control the machine from across the room too. Now, to get that second machine. Already have sync cables coming from Studio Electronics in Burbank. $30 for two and a terminator plug is a steal!

Need a new tracking and monitoring headset...opinions...

I've been using the same Fostex T-20's since 1986. Replaced the cord twice, earpad once, and resoldered one transducer. I think it's time for something new. In addition, during longer sessions they start hurting my outer ears from being mashed into the side of my head. You'd think I'd have...

    The New Gear

Or rather, the newER gear showed up yesterday and a few days ago for the desk. I'm very impressed with the DA-88. Sound quality blew me away after recording some test tracks. The mixer is much nicer than the Mackie 8-buss of this era, and ten times better than the almost new 8-buss I sold to...

    Retiring my 38

I'm finally retiring my 38 after 10+ years of use. The M-1516 will be joining it. Both are good pieces of gear, but the relays are now sticking on four of the eight channel cards, tape is outrageously expensive, used tape usually is of poor quality, and parts are just getting too darned hard to...

    TASCAM DX-4D Compatible with a 52NB?

I may have a DX-2D lined up for my new 52NB, but if that falls through is the DX-4D compatible with the 52NB? I don't have a schematic or a pin-out on the DX-4D, but they are more available that the -2D unit and I'm wondering if it can be used. Anyone know about this?

What I'm bidding on now. Opinions welcome if you've been around as long as this has.

I'm bidding on a mint condition TASCAM PE-40 four-channel, four-band, fully parametric EQ. Circa 1989-1993?? Not sure yet where I'll use it, but I'm sure it will be used. Now Dammit! Don't be outbidding me on this.:D Take a look... TASCAM PE-40 Parametric EQ

    Focusrite Platinum Voicemaster Pro

Does anyone own or use this pre? I'm looking mighty hard at this one but have not made any decisions about a pre yet. Yea or nay on this one?

    Recording steel guitar

For my next project I'm thinking about hiring a pedal steel player to record a track for me. I've never recorded a steel guitar before. Do I run a steel direct or mic up his amp and treat it like any other electric guitar? Anything else I should know about a pedal steel guitar before I commit?

Re-mix is up. "No Place Like Home"

Please tell me if there is some improvement here. No Place Like Home REMIX I listened to this in lo-fi on RealPlayer and I could hear some distortion in the bass drum. On high-fi (between numerous re-bufferings) I couldn't hear any of it. Using MusicMatch Jukebox on Low-Fi I couldn't hear it...

New tune at the MP3 clinic

I used the new Roland R-5 unit for the drums. The Roland sounds much better than the crappy Casio drums. Please let me know what you think of the mix. Thanks.

New tune with new Roland R-5 in the MP3 clinic

Let me know what you think of the overall mix, but particularly the Roland R-5. The cymbals might be a tad loud. I thought they were OK though. Thanks.

    First tune with new drums...

No Place Like Home I'd be grateful for a critique. I know the lead guitar sucks because I can't really play lead guitar. I gotta find a guitar player to help out. All the patterns were programmed in real-time. 14 different patterns were used. Let me know how this new machine sounds and the...

    Got myself a Mackie CR1604VLZ

Well, are you going to tell us your impressions or do we guess?

    Something very unusual happened tonight...

...unusual for me anyway. I've been recording a new song for the past two weeks and when I finally recorded the vocal about 30 minutes ago and played the whole mix back I didn't have to hardly touch a knob or move a fader. Just a little. I pushed the bass up 3+ at about 400 and brought the e...

    Recorded my first drum track...

...on my Roland R-5. The programming options are seemingly endless. Nuance, tuning, panning, velocity, and half a dozen others I can't even remember using right now. I programmed my first drum track start to finish last night for my next song. It took five and a half hours to write all the...

    Hamer California Deluxe

My guitar and amp came a day earlier than expected. AMS is very fast with their order processing. I am very pleased with the guitar. It has one small blemish in the finish on the back and cannot be seen so I'm not gonna sweat that. It's about the size of a quarter and the finish is wavy in that...

    Epiphone Guitars

I did a search last night for comments on these guitars. Overall, the comments were positive and most are built as well as a Gibson. I don't play well enough to justify $1200 and up for a Gibson, but I think that the Epiphone make would suit my needs just fine and they seem to be a good value...

    New Drums

My new (used) Roland R-5 drum machine arrived last night. I won it off of e-bay. Some here know how crappy the drums sound on my mixes from the on-board drums I'd been using on my CTX-1000 keyboard. Well I'm here to tell ya, all that's about to change. These are the best drums I ever heard...

    A BIG Difference

I just listened to two albums by the same artist back to back. Recorded twenty years apart. I have my consumer audio equipment running through the console so I was able to observe the meters on both mixes. The first cut peaked at 0VU of course as it should have, but fluxuated a lot between the...
