What I don't like about Cubase: Can it be fixed?

I don't have a MIDI instrument, so I enter the notes onto the piano roll individually. Unlike nTrack though, when you click on a grid, it doesn't play back the note. This makes it hard to place the notes in the right space. Is there way to have it do this?

Blues, jazz, and everything in between....

I'm pretty much a self taught guitarist. I know some blues and some jazz, but not as much I wish I did. So, my question is, are there any good on-line resources for learning those styles? Some slide guitar maybe?

    What's a step sequencer?

I don't have a keyboard so I've been using step-time entry; is that what step sequencing is? That's my hunch. I've been searching for info, but don't have anything positive to reaffirm my belief. I've found step sequencers, but none of them really tell me what they are exactly. I have nTrack...

    Cubase VST/32 5.1r1: Can't setup patchname device!

When I click the "Patchname Source" pop-up menu in the "Setup Instruments" box, I don't get the "Patchname Scripts" option like I it says I'm supposed to in the help menu. I clicked on "Patchname Device" so I can set it up, but nothing pops up! I can't select anything! Is this a common a bug...

Which came first?! Release notes for Cubase wanted!

I can't figure out which came first! I know that Cuabse SX is the latest Steinberg release though.... It took me a while to figure out that Cubasis 3.7r2 came out before Cubasis 3.0r3 (does that make sense to anyone?). Now I'm trying to figure out which Cubase came first: Was it Cubase 5.0r6 or...

nTrack As A MIDI Sequencer: Opinions?

I like it. I've tried using Cubasis VST and I think nTrack's a lot easier to use. Yet, some people say it's somewhat limited.... What do you think? I like nTrack's piano roll.

    Is CEP is a sequencer?

Well... is it? Can it be considered one? I mean, I've seen nTrack be referred to as a sequencer - and surely CEP can do everything nTrack can do... and more. Usually though, Cool Edit is referred to as a wave editor - but it seems to have moved beyond that. I mean, can't even be used as a...

Cubasis VST 3.7 vs 4.0 vs Cubasis Inwired vs Cubase SX?!?

So I've used Cubasis VST 3.7 - I don't like it. I downloaded Cubasis InWired and it looked like the same thing - except worst since it's freeware. So, what's new in 4.0? Looks like they just added some more features, but the concept is the same. Finally, how do all those compare to Cuabse SX...

CEP as a sampler?! CEP and MIDI

To record and mix I use nTrack - but as my wave editor I use Cool Edit... I haven't done much wave editing though. :p To be honest, I'm not even aware of CEP's MIDI capabilities. I got CEP as a "graduation" from nTrack, but in the end, I couldn't bring myself to learn how to use something else -...

    Soft Sampler: Which one?

Which soft samp do you guys use with nTrack? I'm looking HALion by Steinberg, but I'm shopping around so any opinions are welcome. :D

    Soft Sytns: Acoustic... instruments???

I've been looking into soft synths - I really want something that'll emulate classical instruments. I've heard great things about Steinbergs' VST, but I wanted to check out what Cakewalk had to offer with DXi. Anyway, that's a direct quote from their site, but, what the hell is an acoustic...

    About nTrack's Editing Capabilities

That's a direct quote from the nTrack .hlp file. Now, from what I gather, technically, nTrack is recommending Cool Edit... kind of. Anyway, the point is, I've tried some editing with nTrack... and I can't do it. Have any of you been successful using nTrack as a wave editor, or is it just...

    What's a sequencer? (...and other fun q's)

Before anyone gets on my case, yes I did search. I just wanted to make sure I have to story straight. From what I gather, it's pretty much a "digital" type of multi-track. If that's the case, is software like N-Track or Cakewalk considered types of sequencers? Frooty Loops? I've heard those...

    Video Game Music

:o I didn't know where else to post this.... Not that I want to do this as a serious career (at least I don't think so), but I'm interested in making video game music. This game I'm playing is taking submissions and I think it would be fun if I sent something. So anyway, I was wondering if you...

    Want Free Stuff!

Don't hold back on me people, I know it's out there. Dragon already pointed out some neat stuff in his1 minute digital recording article. I've also found this and this. I want know of any specific programs that you might think is worth trying out though. Anything will do really, whatever you...

    Wanted: Fender Acoustasonic Review

I was shopping around for a new amp and came upon the Fender Acoustasonic. Apparently they have three models in the series: Acoustasonic 30, Acoustasonic Jr., and Acoustasonic FX. I'm an aspiring solo artist equipped with an acoustic and some vocals. I will probably play in small clubs, coffee...

    Acoustic-Electric or Acoustic???

In my experience, an unplugged acoustic-electric does not sound as good as a regular acoustic. That's why when I bought a new guitar I chose a nice black Washburn folk guitar. At the time, I occupied myself with playing alone - plus I could take it anywhere and it would sound good with out...
