    theory/chord question

    A song by a familiar face in our own MP3 clinic has a progression similar to: E (maj) --> A --> G --> F#/D --> E (maj) --> A --> G --> B (10 points to whoever guesses the song/bbs member) Question is... what would be a better name for that F#/D chord? (from the nut/open pos...) - x - - -...

    pants slip down under the radar

    Aieeee... ok.... Sorry... :( Ok...here's something posted a while back that had wildly bad guitar, out of tune vocs, and a little bit o-white boy funk... apologies to those who are sick of it already :D (those who've suffered it already, you may freely skip this thread ;)) Toki987 does bass...

    A good deal on drums?

    Hi... Been needing a set o' drums here for a while, and have been looking. Recently lost out on the perfect opportunity to buy a set of red maple custom dw (about $6000) for about $2100... on STORE credit... one year/no interest/payments... I'm impaling myself with my foot over that one. Any...

    baffles: where to buy

    This new house has created some real monitoring/isolation issues... The basement was already finished. At one end of the basement, there's a really beautifully tiled bathroom with a jetted jacuzzi style tub. Problem is, it opens right out into the main basement room, which is the new...

    don't try this at home

    ...unless you're into seriously wasted time... I've been working on a remix of a tune I did a while back which required humongous guitars. I'd gotten the guitars large by using panned doubled tracks, played the same but w/different pickup switched in, and by sending part of each to a subgroup...

    okay if this ain't heavy?

    The first song I posted way back (well... few months back :D) was hard rock, & that's generally what I like to write/record. However, this song was another one of my oldies/goodies recorded back when a 4-track & depression were my only friends. (1995) I'm writing/recording that hard, heavy rock...

    mix quality --> recording quality

    Many new to recording seem to believe that quality mixes come from DAW fx, plugins, settings, EQ, or computer tricks. Mixing should be where you make artistic choices... not where you improve sound quality! (IMO ;)) Seriously... who here believes that if you had X plug-in, or Y eq you could...

    idea?

    What a great "stimulant" for this clinic, & the group. We had guys recording sh*t that don't really ever do that. Why don't we do this on a regular basis? You know... monthly, or bi-monthly? That way it wouldn't dominate the clinic, but would keep the place uh... 'invogorated'... like it is...

    RNP vs. VTB1 vs. DMP3 (Bass DI)

    chessrock and others make excellent points about these preamp comparisons. Separate takes simply do not create the best environment for comparison. Others make a very valid point that unless a pre is heard in the context of a mix, the test is fairly useless. I tend to agree with that. However...

    defecation (1.5)

    For those who haven't heard my stuff... uh... my real stuff that actually smacked of effort... lol... take a listen to "Sunshine" or "Lumber" first... humor me :( thx ;) heh... this toilet burrito shouldn't have made it to NWR, let alone the 1.5 challenge... but the thing's makin me laugh...

    RNP order

    Mercenary shipped (or said they shipped) my RNP on the morning of the 6th, Priority Mail. Not here yet :( How long does it take to get an order from them... those of you who live in the West? (Cali, Nevada, Washington, Ore, Ariz, Colo, Utah, etc.) Priority Mail should be 2-3 days... but it...

    sonusman's "Creepy" rep proceeds him?

    Thought I saw somewhere that "Creepy" is actually the local legend "sonusman", or Ed Rei... Ed, if that's the case, I gotta question about two songs that "Creepy" produced and demoed on the mp3 clinic: Both "Omega" and "Crashing"... how were the electric guitars 1) tracked? 2) mixed? 3)...

    Sennheiser HD 280

    Actually mildly surprised at these... the level of detail as compared to something like... AKG K240's is very impressive. The bass response was particularly revealing. More detailed in all respects. Almost tempts one to start mixing on phones :eek: Definitely an encouragement for ALL of those...
