Many new to recording seem to believe that quality mixes come from DAW fx, plugins, settings, EQ, or computer tricks. Mixing should be where you make artistic choices... not where you improve sound quality! (IMO ;)) Seriously... who here believes that if you had X plug-in, or Y eq you could...

What a great "stimulant" for this clinic, & the group. We had guys recording sh*t that don't really ever do that. Why don't we do this on a regular basis? You know... monthly, or bi-monthly? That way it wouldn't dominate the clinic, but would keep the place uh... 'invogorated'... like it is...

chessrock and others make excellent points about these preamp comparisons. Separate takes simply do not create the best environment for comparison. Others make a very valid point that unless a pre is heard in the context of a mix, the test is fairly useless. I tend to agree with that. However...

Actually mildly surprised at these... the level of detail as compared to something like... AKG K240's is very impressive. The bass response was particularly revealing. More detailed in all respects. Almost tempts one to start mixing on phones :eek: Definitely an encouragement for ALL of those...
