    Seeking mixer for Tascam 38

I used to use an M-1516. This is a very nice mixer for this machine and you can find them cheap. They don't sound bad either.

    Help! Basement Rehearsal space

Isolation is really the only way it can succesfully be done. It's not cheap, but you probably already know that. Even if you use those panels, you'll get very little reduction due to flanking and lack of mass.

    Buying Mics on eBay

I've bought every 441 and 402 I own on e-Bay. I've also bought tape machines, mixers, effects, etc. Never been burned yet. Been at it over ten years now.

    Track sheet

I use a copy of each channel strip on paper and mark all of the locations of settings on the knobs with a pen. For each track recorded I number a line on the page and make any pertinant notes such as what keyboard patches used, any dynamics settings, effect settings, or anything else I might...

Question about "send and return" on EFX processors

That's interesting. I've never run into that situation before. I'll have to see if I can set that up on my console as an example.

Question about "send and return" on EFX processors

Well yes, except that I thought he had the in's and out's wired correctly from his posts earlier this morning.

Question about "send and return" on EFX processors

Those cables you have there are fine for the inserts using a compressor or other dynamics processing, but did you ever get the effects send/return problem fixed? I don't think it should have mattered what buttons you have depressed to route it. I can't think of any reason why you'd have a...

Question about "send and return" on EFX processors

This may sound redundant, but you are running the send out to the 'in' on the box and the 'out' from the box to the return aren't you? Do you have a hot mic in the room with the monitors on? I can't think of anything else.

    Best Microphone for $300-400???

Used MD 441. Shop around, it might take awhile to find one at $400. They're out there. My last one was $320 in new condition. I spent another $60 on the original NIB Sennheiser mount and still came in under $400. Not owning a 441 should be a felony. Not owning an SM7 is a class D misdemeanor.

noob query regarding aux and bus!

Channel>>>>>>>>>>Buss \/ ^ Send ^ \/ ^ Effect ^ \/ ^ Return>>>^ A send splits the channel signal to a 'branch' circuit routed through the effect and returns it to wherever you assign it to go. Usually to a buss or the main mix faders. It can also...

    reel to reel

Compared to eight track half-inch, yes. Start with an SM-57 and work your way up. There are a lot of good inexpensive mics on the market. I'll let someone else recommend those to you except for the 57.

    reel to reel

You can't record a mic or guitar straight into a tape machine. You'll need a preamp, direct box, or a mixer. When you start into the analog world, just accept the fact that a tape machine is only half the package. The mixer is the other half. There are ways around it, but it's a PITA. Avoid...
