I couldn't find anywhere else for this thread, so i am putting it in the first forum i saw. To get a job in sound engineering (studio work, mixing, producing, etc...) would i take classes in a school of some wort or something?? please help.

I am using a tascam 488 (not the MKII) so i only have two gain knobs on the first two channels, and i want to record 4 tracks at once, will the fact that i don't have the GIAN knobs on channel 3, make that big of a difference? track 1 and 2 through CHANNEL 1: drums track 3 through CHANNEL 2...

the big question i can never find an answer for........when recording, how do you keep from hearing the springs on the snare drum rattle when other instruments or drums are being played?

okay, all i need to know is what are some good (affordable) overhead mics (for a drumset).

okay, i need to know if, on the 488 i could plug 5 mics (4 for drums, 1 guitar amp) and be able to put the first 4 (drums) onto one track and the 5th (guitar) onto the 2nd track.

I am in a situation where, i have non-powered speakers and just need a mixer, but i don't want a powered mixer, should i use the speakers for something else and buy new powered speakers along with the mixer...or get a power amp with the mixer, i am leaning towards the power amp desicion, good...

OKay. There is a FBT mixer for sale for about 500$ and 2 FBT speakers with amps in them for about 200$ (80 watt) i need to know if this is a good deal and if it's worth getting..

can i use the 488 just as a mixer?

i need to know, if i get this peticular mixer will i need a poweramp with it, i'm guessing i don't becuase it is chategorized as "a powered mixer". my local studio shop sells it for about 700$ and i can't order it off the internet so i want to know if i can buy it and save from buying a power...

if i have a 488 how could i get the final mixdown onto a 2" analog tape? (what is the equipment i need, and how do i do it)? thank you.

Just curios: i recently ordered a 488 and my friend said if i plugged mics directly into the 488 no signal would come....he said i needed a power amp and then run from the Power amp to the 488.....am i in need of a poweramp or he just juggling my nuts?

if i like my amps disortion (it's crunchy and thick) should i just run a mic up close to the amp and record it?.....or will it be all fuzzy and hummy.....?
