if i have a 488 how could i get the final mixdown onto a 2" analog tape? (what is the equipment i need, and how do i do it)? thank you.

Well, I think you have it a little backwards. 2" machines are (with RARE exception) multitracking machines, not mastering. And if you're starting with a cassette based multitrack, you're already in sonic trouble that no mastering medium is going to "fix".

Dub your master work off the 488, and record your mixes onto the 'puter, in stereo.

16-bit/44.1kHz stereo wav file, and you're good-to-go!

I am guessing he means 2 TRACK analog tape. If this is the case:
1- Get a 2-track analog tape machine
2- hook it up
3- run the prta-studio
4- Hit "record" on the analog 2-track.
5- wait for the song to finish.

That is it.

Bob Ludwig has an Ampex ATR102 tapemachine that was upgraded to a two inch eight track, which he uses for 5.1 mastering.
