Hello all.

I’ve recently squeezed all the juice out of my Zoom HD16 and have “upgraded” to a Zoom R16, but it doesn’t seem to be able to do something that its predecessor could. With the HD16 I’d plug a condenser mic into input 1 and it would record on whatever track I armed. With the R16 phantom power is now on inputs 5 and 6, but I only seem to be able to record on the corresponding tracks, and no others. What I would like to do is build up vocals from track 1 onwards like I did in the good old days when I had hair and a dentist. Is there a way to assign inputs to tracks? The manual seems rather coy on the matter and the internet has no good suggestions; and AI Overview appears to be actively trying to drive me insane. Perhaps this is simply not an option on the R16, but it would mean one could only have four tracks (5, 6 and – I assume – 13 and 14) of hot condenser action per project, which is going to make recording my acapella version of Wagner’s Ring Cycle a bit tricky. I am a technoklutz so I may well be missing something really obvious…

Apparently you move it to another track after recording.

Really? That seems awkward and one heck of a backwards step.

Thanks for the response.

It's a simple thing.... It's called SWAP in the manual, and takes about 10 seconds. I think what it actually does is to reassign the wave file in the the project, not copy it or anything. See page 24 of the manual.

It was just covered in this thread.
