Hi guys,
Just a quick simple question
So If I upload an original video to Youtube, is it automatically copyrighted?

Another thing,
If I have an original music video with my original recording but its a cover song,
can I still copyright it as fas the video and the audio recording?

Yes, as soon as any copyrightable material (your song) is put into a tangible format (meaning it's written down, recorded or anywhere else but inside your head) it's copyrighted. Registering that copyright is a different stroy.

You would need permission from the original copyright holder to cover his song. This can be done via a mechanical license or in case of film/TV/ Video, a sync license. I think you go through the Harry Fox Agency to get that license. Don't remember.

You may want to register it anyway. I haven't seen any precedent, but if something goes to court, the timestamp on your YT video may not be considered adequate proof of ownership.

(Also, as is obligatory, IanaLB...)
