Cutting some bass out of everything, except for bass guitar and the bass drum. Pretty simple, but for a while I was afraid of cutting out bass, since the instrument on it's own didn't sound as good, but it fits so much better as a whole mix.

You hit upon an important point: Namely, EQ instruments according to how they sit in the mix, NOT on how God-like they sound when solo'ed. Often the most impressively huge mixes have constituent tracks that sound thin, nasally or downright odd, but when put together they really jump out.
