I wrenched my ankle really badly last week,which required an x-ray,so I hobbled on down to our local Medical Imaging Service.Its a small premisies with one Radioligist who looks and sounds a bit like Professor Frink from the Simpsons.During previous visits we have discussed music,recording etc(The first time he got my attention by reciting his gearlist -Gibson ES175,Neuman Mics etc)So this last visit he pulls me aside after we'd finished and says "Follow me ,you'll be interested in this I reckon" and then takes me in to his store room where I am confronted by a Studer 24 Track(A800 I think) and Yamaha 24track Recording Desk(Really..........I shit you not).
After I got my Breath back he told me he'd got them from Paradise Studios in Sydney(Aus) and is going to reco it and set it up in a spare room at the clinic (in a strictly Hobby capacity)and would I(as a local studio owner/musician) like to come and test it out with him.After a long pause of about 1 millescond I agreed and will await his call.
I mentioned this to a mate of mine and found out that before this guy became a radioligist he did a lot of session work in Sydney in his youth and ,after becoming disillusioned with the music industry ,went back to Uni and became a Nuclear Physicist.............!!!!!!
Now I live in a quiet little Sea-Side town on the East Coast of Victoria,Australia where my previous experiences with Studer 24 Tracks was limited to drooling over pictures in magazines so this was quite a blowout for me.I now call in once a week to check on his progress,he says it will be a while as he needs to replace caps and other parts that are hard to source (bugger) but its definately something to look forward to Eh!
