im planning on buying them, most likely. Ive heard they're very good, and for the price they're nice. But i haven't actually had the chance to audition them, so don't take my word for it.

I've been using the YSM 1 passives for over two years; for the bucks, you get a lot of bang.
I'm sure that some of the more expensive speakers, active or passive, will also do a very good job.
As many of you out there, I heard some positive chatter about the Yorkies and bought them without hearing them. A non-musician friend of mine stopped by one day and I played a couple of songs over the Yorks; he listened and asked me to get him a pair.

They sound like they're a nice product, I just don't like it when people say they're good for the money. It always makes me skeptical.

Well, since you can spend $100 or $4,000 (or more) on monitors, you'll always need to consider the price. I've got a pair of Yorkville YSM1i's and I like them quite a bit, but do they sound better than a pair of Genelec 1037's?...probably not, but you're going to spend about $7,000 more for the Genelecs than I did for my Yorkvilles. If you're working on a budget, wouldn't you rather get something that's "good for the money"?

ok, well how would the yorkvilles compare to the mackie hr824's or even the 624's?

I've never heard the 624's, but IMO the 824's are quite a bit better than the Yorkvilles. The obvious difference is in bass response; the Mackies go places the Yorkvilles just can't.

Seeing that the Yorkvilles are made just up the road from where I live (Toronto) I've had the opportunity to check 'em out, along side the other, better known monitors.....in fact, I've been thinking myself to get a pair of the active YSM-1P's (115W per side) which sound really good "for the money"
They retail for $740 Cdn ($450 USD) which is good value, coz let's face it...there aren't very many decent choices in the under $1000 Cdn ($800 USD) price range.
Last week I listened to them for over an hour at a local music store, and I was quite surprised at the sound quality....I couldn't really tell any difference between them and the Tannoy's which cost almost $400 more...or the Event 20/20's with my eyes shut...
Yeah, the Mackies, Genelec & other high priced monitors DO of course sound better than the Yorkies....BUT, certainly not as much as their 2-3 times price tags might suggest.
I haven't been able to hear the Behringer Truth's yet to compare them (simply coz they are totally out of stock in North America at the moment)....but I hear that they are "great value for the money" also....
Like the other poster said - I don't think your'll find a better sound than the Yorkvilles at $450 USD.....
I also checked out the new M-Audo SP-5B's too....they are rather small....sound OK....but not that great....

Why not go to the store/vendors and listen yourself and pick out the one you like?
Then, you wouldn't have to ask the forum what's happening.

Where can you find Yorkvilles online? I'm not having much luck. Somebody suggested a place called "Wheaton's", but they only seem to have powered speaker cabs by Yorkville.

I've got YSM-1's and they sound great to me. I haven't compared them to much else though. They do sound better than the Yamaha monitors in a friend's studio. Looking at the build quality, I don't see how they can make them for that price.
