Yamaha MT4X, ping-pongs out of phase

Hi all, first post so be gentle with me :-)

I've owned my MT4X since the late 1990's. I really don't use it much these days, but only now have I thought of asking this question that I've wondered for nigh on 20 years.

When you use the internal routing functions to ping-pong one or more tracks to another track, the resulting submix on the new track is always out of phase with the source track(s). It's never been really much of a problem, because of course the whole idea of reduction-mixing is to free the source tracks. Still, for all these years I've wondered if it was a fault unique to my machine, but if it isn't a fault, what's the purpose of the submix being out of phase?

The manual makes no reference to it one way or another, other than to explain how to prepare the controls to create a submix.

Thanks!
