Yamaha HS50 Studio Monitors for $129.99!?

With Yamaha introducing the new HS5/7/8 studio monitors, I see that Musicians Friend is now selling the HS50's that have been around for 6-7 years for $129.99.

I see on the web that the HS50's get, mixed and generally good reviews.

However, for $129.99 each, it seems that this would be a good time to get a pair of them especially in light of the fact of their 4 available adjustments for Low Cut, High Trim, Mid-EQ and Room Control.

I'd be happy to see some comments from you in this regard.

Yeah, I got a pair for around $240 on evilbay.

Definitely worth that.

Though, I don't recall MF selling the HS50s for $129. I had thought that they were sold for around $200 until the last year or so.
 
I've had my eyes on the Yamaha HS5's for several weeks now, since they are in my price range. I'm seriously getting fed up with my budget Samson system which isn't accurate enough to mix on. I knew Ebay had good deals but not Musicans Friend. Thanks Homestudioguy, I'm gonna check there now.
 
Heck yeah! I was so furious; I bought manufacturer refurbished HS80Ms a couple months before they released the HS8s. Cost me $560 for the refurbished ones, and then a couple months later, the HS80Ms dropped to $250 a monitor on sweetwater and other sites... Regrets.

If you do get those monitors though, I highly suggest getting the HS10w to go along with 'em. My buddy got the HS50s and you can't hear anything in the low end well enough to make good judgements. If you can't afford the sub, then you'll probably need to take a lot of trips to the car to see how your low end is looking.

Maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges but... Would it not be a better deal then to just pick up the older hs80m's as they won't need the sub? While I'm a bit of a newbie... It seems to me it would make mixing easier dealing with only the monitors.

Mmm, it's what you prefer, really. The lows WILL be more powerful with a sub. That being said, the low mids-mids will be more powerful with the 80s. I went with the sub because the 50s still kick ass for me! :)
 
I got a pair of HS80s new on ebay for $480. I really like them - huge step up from the BX5s I had before.
