Yamaha CDRW Disc Stamping

I was curious about the Yamaha CDRW and the disc tattoo technology. Is anyone using one of these drives ? How is its performance... and about this tattoo business of burning an image on to the CD surface...does it do a good job. Im used to using stick on lables and the thought of burning an image on the disc sounds great.

The Yamaha CRW-F1 is an amazingly accurate and smooth drive. It is professional quality.

The disc T@2 is an image burned on the burn side not the top side. It's a nice way to sign your disc, but does not allow top side labeling.

By the way, I'd stay away from stick-on labels. They screw up too often and jam or affect reading.
 
Also, apparently the image burn can only be done on the "unrecorded" portion of the disc. Not quite a replacement for a label. However, not a bad idea for marking your personal discs as to what is contained on them.

I've done about 150 with stick-ons without mishap...but what is the alternative ??

Good question.

I just know that the few I've received with stick ons have been problemmatic...stuck in the drive (more than just an isolated incident) or the label shredded, and the like.. Perhaps the glue may smear in high heat.

I also understand that disc mass can be affected inadvertently and may interrupt reads leading to more dithering or full read errors.

Unless I'm looking for a real demo to dish out, I'm sticking with my own John Hancock and manual labeling with an approved CD pen from Mitsui.

I think that a professional printing would be necessary for anything more than casual circulation.
