Is PA 9 compatible with XP? It was bundled with the Aardvark DP2496 soundcard that I purchased.

I recently reformatted my computer, and somewhere along the line after I installed PA9, my OS slowed down a lot...mostly noticeable in startup. I had this problem before and is why I reformatted. The system seemed to work okay after I did the minimum install. The effects weren't included in the install, so I reinstalled without uninstalling PA9. Before checking if everything was working correctly, I installed CounterStrike:) Everything seemed to work fine until I rebooted to check and see if all was well. This is where the problems began. It took more than 2 times longer to boot, and there was some noticeable lag in other programs.

I think it's safe to conclude that one of these 2 programs doesn't like XP. Or is it that my card doesn't recognize the effects that I installed with the software?

I'm going to try to back track and try to see where the problem lies. First I'll uninstall CounterStrike, then test. If that doesn't work, then I'll uninstall PA9. If that doesn't work, I'll reformat and throw CS and PA9 out the window! Should I stick with the minimum installation of PA9, or can you let me know what the "safe" components are in the Advanced install menu.

My system is a Dell(aarg!) Dimension 8200 P4 at 1.8GHz
512 RDRAM
40gig Maxtor hard drive
Geforce 2 video card
Intgrated sound

Please respond ASAP and potentially save me tons of time. Thanks.

I don't know, but I would defrag my harddrive(s) first of all, that helped me...

Did you enable networking as part of your counterstrike setup? Because once you enable networking system startup gets significantly longer.

is it in msconfig>startup, or in counterstrike's settings?

unfortunately, i won't be in front of my pc until after work. thanks.

First of all, aren't you aware that Aardvark still hasn't delivered final drivers for XP yet?

Yeah, I know, but the beta drivers seem to work fine. The DP was one of the first things i installed after reformatting, and everything worked smoothly. I don't think it's the drivers...maybe they don't like PA9. Because I remember PA9 prompting me that my card needed to have support for their effects. Any ideas on that?

Simply... PA9 doesn't suported by XP, neither ME. Sonar does.
It could work, but won't sweat. It could walk, but not run.
There's many unexpected problem than it results.
Check www.cakewalk.com for suport issue.
If you still want to use XP, use Sonar. If you want to use PA9, safely use Win 98SE. It goes the same with your Counter Strike :) :) :). POD BOT wont work in XP. :D

Heh, after calling Dell a number of times, they concluded that my harddrive fried. They sent a tech over to replace it. After that, everything's as smooth as butta and as fast as lightning. Let's see how long this lasts
