Having had a 'WANTED:TASCAM 388' advert up for some time now I had kind of given up hope of finding one when, completely out of the blue, I get an email from a chap saying he'd got one but was looking to move it on in order to finance a Fender Telecaster. "That's convenient" I thought! I happened to have a Telecaster that wasn't getting much action which I was prepared to part with for a 388. We arranged a meet, I showed him mine, he showed me his as it were and we both walked away happy with no actual money changing hands just a straight like-for-like swap!
It all happened so fast I'm still 'reeling' (see what I did there?!) So I am now the proud owner of a TASCAM 388. I'm feeling quite pleased with myself I must admit (though I'll no doubt miss having a Tele around for 'that' sound at times. When I have the available funds I'll probably look into getting another - I'm guessing a replacement (mass produced) Tele will be far easier to find than a 388!)
Sadly I'm tied up with work 'til the w/e but, come Friday, 'BRING IT ON!!' I can't wait to put this beast through its paces! My home studio project dream is now starting to take shape. I admit I still have a way to go on the configuring front plus a lot to learn. That said, it should be somewhat easier now that I've finally found my central hub recording brain with which to base it all around!
So yes, I'm now the proud owner of a TASCAM 388! It'll probably take me 'til the end of the year to get everything set up the way I want it but, my dream to have a home studio is fast becoming a reality and 2014 is shaping up to be a musical one from where I'm now standing. At last, it's been a long time coming and I now can't wait to get going again (I just need to make the time!)
PS: Thanks again to everyone on here for all the invaluable help and advice to date. No doubt there will be plenty more questions to come from this end but, with your help, I feel like I'm beginning to make some good progress here. Let us not forget, this is a GREAT site we have here people!
