XLR - TRS - Unbalanced !?#@)! ??

::Confusion::

I'd like to get information about those types of connections... exemples of their use.. even with pictures maybe :) Someone just asked me what type of inputs the M-Audio Delta1010 card had and I couldnt even answer that. And even if I check it out in the specs, that doesnt tell me what kind of connections they are, what they look like, and whats their purpose.

I'm really confused as I thought the Delta1010 card had 8 1/4" connectors kinda like what I have on my bass... looks like it isnt the case.

So if anyone has some great source of infos...

XLR is the type of connector that most pro microphones have.

TRS is a qtr inch connector like you see on a headphone cable. Its a qtr inch connecter, devided into three zones. Tip, Ring, and Sleeve.

Balanced is preferable to unbalanced, its quiter, especially over longer runs.

XLR and TRS are both balanced connections.

The Delta 1010 has TRS balanced connectors.

But that means I can't use the SP C1 mic with the Delta1010 cause there's no XLR connectors on the D1010, and the C1 is XLR :( Weird...

there must be a way.... ?

Isn't the Delta1010 a great card? How come doesn't it offer the possibility to connect mics with XLR?

edit: wth! I just checked the Delta1010-LT and it has only 8 XLR inputs. the Delta1010 has only 8 TRS inputs...

So it's all XLR, or all TRS? No in-between?

I wanna plug in and record a guit and a bass which is TRS as I now understand it. With some other mics for the drum. And I also need at least 2 XLR for the SP C1 mic....

That means I gotta buy the Delta1010 AND the Delta1010-LT to have both XLR and TRS connectors capability?

That's a quote from the specs of the 1010LT - apparently, to keep costs down you get two preamps and lose the TRS connectors, since un-balanced RCA's are cheaper to build. If you're on a budget and need TRS or TS inputs, either solder up a cable with TS on one end for your bass and RCA on the other, or use adaptors. Their specs don't mention exactly what levels the RCA's will take, so you might have to adapt an XLR to a 1/4" TS cable in order to get enough gain for your bass.

For most studio use, the 1010 with TRS's and a separate preamp would be more useful, just more expensive... Steve
 
I would go with the regular 1010 and the joe meek pre(which supplys the phantom power, and has a trs out).
